Re: Patina Paint Jobs
Man, I have that picture hanging in my garage. I can't get away with that look in Oregon unless I used a rust inhibitor and 10 coats of flat clear. The fenders would rust through in a month.

Re: Patina Paint Jobs
Hello all, new member here at the site. It has already been a very helpful reference for me.
This is my '70 GMC project truck. My great uncle was the original owner. I purchased it from him in Nov. 2008. Just got it out here to CA from Missouri recently. The old camper (rotted out) was removed. Had been on there for 30+ years easy. Initial use will be as a weekend/running errands truck. Need to get lights, and brakes straight so I can safely run it on the road. Then I will go from there. http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...9/IMG_0066.jpg |

Re: Patina Paint Jobs
Sorry folks....
I thought my intro would fit here. Other forums I am on freak out if you start a new thread when you can fit it into a pre existing one. Thanks for the links as well. |
Re: Patina Paint Jobs
It's all good man.Welcome to the site. It's 100% better than the HAMB for sure.

Re: Patina Paint Jobs
You were the one who "made it seem like a bad thing"
It wasn't a slam, I find it interesting that it is almost always newbies who actually research back into the old threads. I just wonder how they find them? Are the using the search function to find a specific word or phrase? Then replying to it....most times not realizing that this would bump it back up to the top. Or are they picking back through the old pages? That could take quite a while? Rarely, an old member (sometimes one who has not posted in a while) will bump one back up, but it is usually one that they started. The real point of this though, is that there is already a very popular "patina" thread that never falls back very far. So I wondered "why this particular one"? I would merge this one into the other, but it mixes everyting together by the originally posted date/time, so it would probably just make a mess. Quote:
There is no "freaking out" here for starting a new thread. In fact it is encouraged. |

here is a few pics of mine, work in progress. Im creating my own patina. I cant afford a shiny paint job and the one on the truck was a poor attempt at a nice paint job and it just looked bad.

Re: Patina Paint Jobs
That's cool. Are you just sanding through to primer or what?
|
Re: Patina Paint Jobs
Im gonna try to do mine. I plan on doing it like how they did on TRUCKS

here's one of mine. bought some used trim from Teeitup, Painted it with some cheap ebay paint, wet sanded it flat, scotch brited the edges and let the harsh northern Indiana weather do the rest. It looks better in the pic than it really was

here is a few of the process, and a few more of my tail gate. The best part is if you screw up it just adds character or you can add more paint and start over again. I shot my tailgate 3 times cause I kept sanding through areas I didnt mean too. The first is what I started with, a hood with original paint and white on top. I just sanded it down with 200 grit. Then I painted on black with a brush, rolled on a mixture of hugger orange and black for a rusty look and sprayed on an original olive green that was oxidized that I had color matched. I misted it with the white, wet sanded to my liking and bingo, an in-expensive cool paint job. My opinion of course.

Re: Patina Paint Jobs
Hey PipsC10 thanks for the post. That really looks good and the how to is much appreciated. I am thinking of something similar for my '65, but using red as the "factory" color and then distressing it.

I just finished my faux tina, and I had a blast doing it. The truck is still apart do to our weather here in Indiana. When I do get it together I will blend the rust look into the parts of the truck if needed. I used all Duplicolor paint. My palns are to make a nice comfortalble interior and nice engine bay, and bid chrome wheels, all in time. any questions please ask and pm me the total cost was about 200 to 300 bucks for the paint labor was free.
