Project update:
Exhaust is done back to the rear crossmember, I will finish the tail pipes when the rear sway bar is installed. I picked up a camaro bar for $25 at the pick a part, including all the hardware. fuel line is in from filter/regulator to fuel rail. Front suspension is back under it but loose. Recieved a full set of SS brake lines and hoses. Have most of the engine harness figured out, I just need to remove a few more wires and dress it up again. Also received my in tank pump kit and did most of the mods to the tank. I still need to put a filler neck on it. I've been working my butt off and things are starting to come together, but I am behind my self imposed schedule. |

Time for an update.
I started putting filler on many small things. I had a major issue with the dash, The truck had been in a fender bender and the driver put his knee into the dash on the left side by the AC vent, when the truck was repaired the body shop just filled it 3/4" deep with filler so I had to work that out. I also now have the A/C system mocked up inside. My last big question mark is where I can put the LS1 computer. I really want it under the dash but there is not much room and the harness is not very long. I may put the cab back on the frame so I can figure it out. I don't want to be messing with it after it's painted. Anyway I'm making some progress... |

Re: 71 Cheyenne in Chandler
How's it coming on that truck D? We have been working our butts off on John's Belvedere. Should be ready for paint in a week and a half. He is going to trip out when he see's it when he gets home from Afhanistan.
My truck should be street legal by spring time. You know, when the ice melts on the river? :ito: Need to make a trip to see you. probably after the holidays. |
Re: 71 Cheyenne in Chandler
Sounds good! There is a track event Jan 5 and 6 at PIR, but I would rather hang in the garage a different weekend.
Did you get it registered as a classic with the correct insurance? I lost a few weeks working on the Bimmer getting it ready for the track, then another weekend at the track. Now we are going to Colorado for a week to go snowboarding. I will be back on the truck after that. I have been working on it in small doses and the cab is within a weekend (maybe) of being in it's first coat of primer. But now that you know how to sand a car for paint I can always use the help! I have the fuel tank ready to go in and all the hardware for mounting it. I have not posted any pictures because it does not look like I have gotten anything done. :( |

Just stumbled across this thread. Glad to see there as so many Arizona enthusiasts. You mentioned you aren't running off the shelf motor mounts, do you know if they shift the motor towards the rear in order for the Camaro oil pan to clear the cross member? Would you happen to have any pictures of the motor mounts and a picture of your oil pan to crossmember clearance? |
Re: 71 Cheyenne in Chandler
Looks real good , can't wait 2 see this finish up and running

Re: 71 Cheyenne in Chandler
I guess I should up date this.
First off I have figured out I don't have the time or the patience to do body work. Not to mention the knowledge. So I am farming it out. I found a really great guy that does it on the side and he is retired. He does one at a time so it should go quick. I am leaning towards the original ( for this truck ) Yellow and White, I'm not a big yellow fan but I think they look nice. Second is medium blue and white like Killer was (RIP Killer). Then third is red and white. Anyway I have a couple of weeks to figure it out because the body guy is painting his 72 Chevelle Convertable some time soon. I have not done much to the truck since Thanksgiving, but I have sold my 70 Elcamino and my 91 BMW race car. I bought quads for the family and we are spending a lot more time together which makes us all happier! :metal: I still hope to have the truck running by September or so, maybe not drivable but movable. We are going to get the cab done first so I can do wiring and stuff. I did buy some air bags for the rear since I want to be able to tow I will replace the springs with bags and I hope it will be a good set up. I don't plan on slamming it and cutting the frame but I might have to we'll see. What do you guys think about my color choices? |

Don't know if you saw my post or not from today, but any chance you could snap some shots of your oil pan clearance to the crossmember and a picture of your motor mounts. Or maybe I could swing by sometime and take a look. I'm in Chandler as well. |

Progress!!! :metal:
OK, The cab is off to the body guy, and things are moving very quick. The cab is in incredible condition but we spent another 2 hours working on the dash. (It was bent in an accident) I actually found 1/4 inch of bondo in the glove box door. Other than that we found some damage in the passenger door from a small fender bender were the mirror hit something and bent up the panel. Don thinks we might have it in it's first coat of primer by Monday. I also got a radiator and am getting it mocked up. |

Things are moving along quite nicely now. The cab and doors are in primer and we started the first round of block sanding last night.
Last week I also started making my own brackets for a Sanden AC compressor setup. I found a company that sells them but I needed an excuse to learn Solidworks, so I designed my own. |
Re: 71 Cheyenne in Chandler
Good looking project!

Re: 71 Cheyenne in Chandler
hey 71bb lwb,
your truck is coming along great. i am interested in your pant & body guy as well. i see that you are learning solid works (software) i am in the process to learn it as well! i am looking to change careers. go into mech. design. as you may have noticed the civil design market is non existant right now so i am going to try to get out of it completely. do you mind sharing what you do for a living?? please pm me if you would feel like sharing any info. ... again it is a great job you are doing & a cool truck!! rodstored-72 |
