Don't want to sound as I'm high jacking but,... I thought you may want to know. They started in Feb. of this year which was suppose to be Janurary18. They were done in May with the build but I had to sheetrock and finish it with help from my brother-in-law and one of his guy's from work. They do sheet rock for a living. Thank goodness! I didn't like that at all, it's a pain in the you know what! I had a 80 amp serice tied to thebreaker panel in the house.
I have Direct TV in the upstairs and down stairs. One receiver works both TV's though right now. Upstairs is A/C & heated. Have to keep the kids cool and warm so they stay out of the house!
If you want to see the whole story check my website out.

Well I like hearing about Shops and Shop builds so its all good !

This morning as I was warming up my car , I heard from about 15 feet away "Good Morning"
one of the crew was at my house before 7am (good sign!) lucky he didn't surprise me near my car or he would have gotten punched , dark out and all .
the guy said "do you mind if I work a half day thursday ?" I said I don't mind but I also don't think you should , if you want to o.k. So I get to see some progress tonite ! :metal:

As far as suppose to start in Jan. mine was SUPPOSE to start in Sept.
now my tractor guy is leaving for the month of Dec. I may not get a pour till Jan. ?? crossing my fingers !!!!!!

When it's all finished you'll be walking around in a partial daze. You'll find yourself going out and visiting this new space with a can't believe I did it smile on your face.

"CAUTION" do not, I repeat do not work on your truck till this sensation subsides!!

esll. :)

Happy for you .... enjoy it!

Wow, what an unusual and cool design for the building. Is there a method behind it, or is the design purely aesthetic?

If you look in the background you can see our house that is unique in its shape , so we wanted to compliment design wise since its in the front yard .

Should they forget to remove the tractor let me know. Looks like its coming along nicely. Have you thought about a "Garage warming party"? I could bring a wrench or two.

NONHOG, When you get the final inspection/OK to occupy papers and walk into your newly completed shop, you'll be overwhelmed with pride and emotion knowing that it's the fruit of your labor and it really is completed. That weird feeling you get every time you open the door and turn the lights on won't go away for awhile. Mines been completed since June and I still get goofy when I go in there. Enjoy the fruit of your labor.

Fishwacker its nuts how many times I've come up with a new ideas as I am looking around inside my dripping non finished shop/garage.
What I thought would work or be cool is changing from looking at the plans which my wife and I designed to the reality of whats there. All part of the fun . And I think you said it best "Blank Canvas" !
Here is what I saw when I got home from church today .

Only on suggestion. Put down a vapor barrier down before pouring your concrete. My contractor pulled mine up and now I pump out 8 gallons a day with a dehumifier. The cement guys will say that the concrete will not cure fast enough but the floor will sweat forever.

I asked them about that , which WILL come up again . The salesman said no because something about the reinforced fiber ? bla ba bla
Did you add gravel over your site before the pour ? My fill was river run I think they called it than we added a couple inches of 5/8 crushed rock in hopes that what moisture does come up wont wick thru like it would with a dirt base.

Re: Digging Holes For Shop Today!

The fiber is only for reinforcement, like wire mesh. Make sure they add a vapor barrier and make dern sure they cut your expansion joints THE SAME DAY. They should be 1/4 of the thickness deep and spaced appropriately (based on thickness as well). I can't tell you how many times I've had to inspect failed concrete due to a lack of expansion joints.

I had 6 inches of 5/8 minus and 6 inches of sand and the water comes up like a fountion. Put it down at all cost. Pit run doesn't stop a thing.
