Here's my project a 57 with fatman MII front end custom four link rear with step notch and airbags on all four corners with a big block chevy. It is still under construction and hopefully soon I will have the short fleetside bed on.

Before and after on my 59 GMC.
Fairly original, still running leaf springs and the original 235 straight 6, 3 speed on the column. Bed has been updated with oak and stainless. The seat is an original seat I found out of a firetruck. |

Hey Sam, this is Doug (guy you got the '71 from around the corner) Thats a sweet lookin' truck, man. Really nice I still haven't really touched my '75 since i talked to ya last -- just got real busy. But i did dig out the seat thats supposed to go with that '71 if you still have it. The weathers gonna be crappy for a few days, but 'ill give ya a ring when it clears up and see if i can swap 'em out someday |

Some amazing vehicles here. I'm a bit reluctant to show mine. But, hey, she's waiting patiently:
'57 Step, wide window, MII front, Jag XJ6 IRS, 496/th400, and much much more. Here's the before; http://www.a2zcs.com/files/IMG025.JPG Rear end going in; http://www.a2zcs.com/files/DSC_0537.JPG Long, long way to go! |

Ok, here is mine. It is a 56 GMC with 502/350, Camaro clip, disc brakes in front. I was planning to take it apart for paint but I just got a great deal on another 56 I have to pick up in a week or two. That one has a 70 Camaro clip and KP four link. It also has a fleetside bed from a 58 I believe. It is in pieces and I will post photos when I get.

Re: Calling all 55-59's
I have a question. I have a 59 pickup and i want to lower it, is there any other way than to buy a drop axle?

Re: Calling all 55-59's
Oh ok is that cheaper than buying a drop axle for it?
|
Re: Calling all 55-59's
Well a drop axle is for the front and will therefore only drop the front.
Most people on here are upgrading the suspensions with Mustang II or Camaro or aftermarket stuff to to a total upgrade to power steering, disk brakes, independant front end. Very few of these customs still have the straight axle, therefore very few use drop axles. If you want to drop the truck and keep the original axle, steering, and brakes then I would suggest replacing the springs at all four corners. Originally they had leaf springs on all four corners and you can replace the springs with springs that give the truck a lower ride. One such springs are Monoleafs http://www.eatonsprings.com/Monoleaf.jpg and are called that because you replace the multispring pack with a single thicker spring. Also looking at vendors such as Classic Performance Parts http://www.classicperform.com/ or Early Classic Enterprises http://www.earlyclassic.com/ Both have reasonable web pages and I think you will find different solutions |
