Re: Steel Rally Rims & Tires -- Max and Proper Sizing
So far I have put on about 2000 miles on the Firestone Firehawks and they are performing extremely well -- good wear, good traction in wet weather, quiet at highway speeds, softer and more comfortable ride compared to the BG Goodrich truck tire I had on earlier.
My buddy and I drove from Seattle, WA to Vancouver B.C. (about 250 miles or so) and he commented positively on the ride. Additionally, I think Firestone retail outlets have a "sale" going on but if not, they will match Tire Rack prices. I would highly recommend the 255/70/15 sizing if your suspension is stock height as these are close to the 235/75/15 that came stock with the truck. The benefit is that the 255s will not dramatically affect your speedometer (maybe onl 2 mph-ish faster). Additionally, if I decided to lower the truck, the 255s will tuck under nicely -- both front and rear. I know it is a hard decision but I solicited input from this Forum as well as others. I have no regrets on the purchase. |
Re: Steel Rally Rims & Tires -- Max and Proper Sizing
I'm running Uniroyal Tiger Paw GTS's, 255/70s and they look good and ride very well with no road noise on mine.. I am going to 275s on it though, as I don't plan any lowering other than dropping the back end to level it out. I just like the look of a fat tire on it!

Re: Steel Rally Rims & Tires -- Max and Proper Sizing
Thanks 1986swb. I'm going to get them tomorrow I think. The 255s as you say they are 29.1 high.
Albatrossian... the 275s are wide eh? I looked at them but I wanted to fill the hole a bit more. I think the 275s are around 28" high. My '87 came from the factory with 225s and I think they are 28.3 so speedo shouldn't be too bad in either case but I'm getting the 255s. |
