Re: 1950 project

I like the Hydroboost setup. I picked one up from the yard to put on my 55.2. I already have the regular booster in that location but will try to adapt the bracket, and master cyclinder to the booster.
Did you modify the bracket to make the booster fit?
How about the lines? I would suggest getting the banjo connectors instead of the 45* connectors. That's what I'm going to do on mine.

Nice build you have going. By the way what headers did you go with.

I went with hooker super comp block hugger headers.

I really wanted long tubes but do not have enough clearance for the steering hook up to the rack, with theese I sould have no problem. they clear the frame rails by 1 inch at the closest point. the stock manifolds did not even come close to fitting. I would have had to notch the frame rails.

Yeah I know I'm putting the same engine in a 58 chevy truck and ran into the same issue. Thanks for responding and your build is looking great.

It's alive!!! I started the motor tonight after sitting for 2 years. it only had 50 miles on it but you still never know buying used parts. the engine barely made one revolution before it kicked right of and purred like kitten. you gotta love fuel injection.

Back in the day this truck was quite a departure from the previous trucks if you've ever been in a 46 chevy you'll notice you can roll down the passenger window without much effort.
in other news is there any way you could get a shot of your headers i'm still undecided i would prefer the tube header... thanks in ADVANCE

progress and confusion

made progress this weekend but I am also scratching my head. I welded in the firewall and floors and also hung the doors for the first time since I had the truck. I bought it in pieces. I mounted the firewall with screws and put the cab back on the truck so I could locate my motor and weld in the mounts.
and now after it is all welded in the firewall hits the motor. I installed a *****in firewall and floor kit that came with new front cab mounts. I measured every thing twice before I welded them in. the cab fits fine on the frame, front and rear mounts line up perfectly. I will try to install the motor again tonight and just hope I was having an off day.

the motor mocked up before the firewall was welded

the firewall welded in

floors welded in

motor out

at least it is looking like a cab again

Thats just great. Congrats on reaching that milestone.

Re: 1950 project

do you have any clearence on your radiatior in the front of the engine. your firewall should clear. my stock firewall works for a 350 with no modifications. wonder of you need to modify your engine mounts?

I should have room to move it forward considering it fits with a stock firewall. the thing that bugs me is I purposley put the cab back on the frame to locate the eng and trans. and it cleared the firewall with 3/4 inch to spare. the first pics showing the clearance was with the mounts welded in place. my first thought was I possibly had the front cab mounts off a little but they line up perfectly and the rear cab mounts also line up perfectly. I will try and mount the engine back in tonight and see what happens.

Re: 1950 project

with my ls1/street and perf. air filter/ and shorty but fatty rad. and fan shroud I had to build a custom core support to give me enough clearance in the front to clear basically the stock firewall in the back of the engine. my custom rad. support drops the rad about 4-5 inches from stock and moves it forward by about 3.

since your firewall is recessed quite a bit I'd say your fine.

well after tonight I realize i will be cutting and re welding the mounts forward about an 1 1/2 inches. I still can't figure out what went wrong, other than I guess I just messed up. oh well. here are a few pics of where I had it tonight.

4 inches from the radiator (I am running an electric fan)
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a198/ahsum/cl3.jpg

and a little farther from the firewall than before

cajun, my disadvantage is I bought this truck apart and do not know how much room there is for the rad to move forward and i also need a condensor upfront. got any pics of yours installed.

Re: 1950 project

You probably already thought of this but I would put on the accessorie pulley, fan, etc. to make sure you are not causing any other problems with radiator interference. I know on my 4wd conversion I am really having to think ahead to keep from doing stuff twice. Looking good so far.

I am using an electric fan so the waterpump pulley is the closest thing to the radiator. I will definitley check several times before welding again. those mounts are going to be a bear to get off.
