:lol:That`s what I told one guy who offered."Are you sure you don`t just want to see what everyone else is missing?

Here`s a later Napco. Not so sure this unit wasn`t swapped in out of an earlier truck at some point. With LTs,that was the idea.Wear the truck out, then move the Power-Pak to the next truck.

Re: NAPCO Thread

I agree with Special K the Suburbans in post #3 are all factory. 1959 was the last year for Napco's in the light duty truck. Did GMC's have Dana axles in the rear as well as the front, like the 3/4 tons did. I know Chevy 1/2 ton 4x4's came with either the Eaton Corporate or the GM 12 bolt up to about 63. My friend had a 1/2 ton GMC Carryall when we were in college, I had my 63 Chevy Longbed 4x4. His had the V6 in it and I always preferred his Carryall over my pickup, much more practical for camping.

somewhere in my mess, i have a picture of my dad's old 55 chevy napco he had when i was a little kid. he worked for the agriculture department for contra costa county and it was his "county truck". he went from that 55 to a '64 ford 4x4, a 70 stepside 4x4 and finally a 78 power wagon. i wish i knew what happened to the 55 and the 70 since my dad always took extra care of his vehicles even though they were owned by the county. i tried buying the 70 when it came up for auction but as a 18 year old i didn't have enough cash.

Here is a Napco that is on Craigslist. http://newjersey.craigslist.org/cto/944931486.html

For sale is a 1970 GMC Napco 4WD tow truck. This is not a military truck it is just painted like that. New tires and brakes. Has a leak in the front diff and transfer case. Just a couple of seals need to be replaced. $10.000

That truck belongs to my friend Dale`s truck repair/towing/recovery/hauling business.Oh,I forgot powdercoating, too:lol:.One of his guys made that grille.I`m not sure if they made the big emblem. The truck had big singles all around, but Dale swapped duals onto it for his purposes.I likes it with the singles.I offered him a Lund visor I have for free.He didn`t want it.And,he`s a dress it up kinda of guy.Oh well,I think that truck is screaming for a visor if any truck should have one at all.

Hello, I picked up this 56 this fall, getting ready to tear it apart for paint, upgrades and a 396. My goal is to keep the axles to preserve a little of its heritage but will replace tranny and Tcase with something more modern. Somebody put a car 4 speed in it along the way and the Tcase is pretty noisey.i had a bad experience with a divorced Tcase on an old power wagon so I am going with a T350/np205 if I can make it fit.

It has a small block Chevy with a two barrel under the hood, incomplete, no trans, my dad picked it up from somebody who was restoring it back in the day i believe, ill ask him later. looks like a pretty solid truck, has some rust, but after watching that napco movie on youtube i wanna restore it to stock condition.

67-72s may be more popular, but nothing is sexier than a nicely done task force.

All you need is an old sm-420 4 speed and you got it made for running gear.
They should be cheap and easy to find. In use in Chevy trucks from late 40's early 50's till 1967 I believe from 1/2 tons up to 2 1/2 (C60?)ton trucks.
