I saved the cardboard ends off of the KYB shock boxes that I got from ECE. I some how lost the front box end,... and need that number.

The number I posted (344067) is for KYB 6" drop rear coil springs.

For the most accurate information related to these drops I would contact ECE personally. However, I don't know why the 344067 shocks wouldn't work for a 5" drop.

The front and rear shock absorbers on 67-72 coil spring trucks will interchange if you wanted to. I have done it before. Front to rear, etc..

Second, ECE simply has done the research and determined appropriate shocks for lowered applications which they buy from KYB. Then, they cover over the official KYB part number on the box with their part number to save their proprietary information.

There is no way in hell that KYB makes specific shocks just for Early Classic. No way, no how.

If you buy the KYB shocks from ECE (like I have done many times) when you look closely at them, the KYB part number is stamped into the shock body right near the bottom eyelet.

After buying a few sets from ECE, nowdays when I buy KYBs, I simply order the KYB part number from Summit to save a good bit of money. Sorry ECE, times are tight. A KYB is a KYB regardless of where they come from.

On lowered trucks, the KYB GR-2 is much more suitable than the Gas-A-Just units are. The GR-2 is softer and helps the ride considerably.

I'm happy with my Gas adjusts on the front so I bought a set for the rear but have yet to install them. My dad went with the GR2 shocks for the softer ride and they are nice also. KYB's are nice shocks:metal:

If you are running the Gas-A-Just on the front, be sure and keep an eye on your upper shock studs. They have a problem with coming loose and wallowing the frame hole out anyway, and the stiffer shocks will agravate that even more.

just to give yall an update, i installed the KYB 344068 shocks on the front, and i am completely satisfied!!! the truck rides a whole lot better, alot let body roll for some reason? my only guess is that the old shocks were worn out but they seemed to be not too old?

On our trucks where we have flip kitted the rear, we have essentially moved the shock attach point up the same amount as the drop (usually 6 inches). I have researching shock data to try and find a suitable shock and many places list the extended and collapsed lengths. Would this theory apply in this example below?

Stock (rear):
Extended: 23.26" Collapsed: 14.23 Stroke: 9.03"

For a 6" lowered rear suspension and NO shock extenders, would you look for a shock with 6" removed from each of these numbers? That would be a very short shock in the collapsed position.

I need to get my notches done and do a full extension/full retraction test and see where the numbers lie and shoot for a shock that has the range I'm looking for. I have found that when you start looking at shorter length shocks, the shaft sizes and body diameters shrink also, and that's not good on a truck.

Here is what I know.

If you buy a front shock from ECE, it comes with their sticker on the box making the KYB number unreadable. The number on the shock is 344068. I ran these shocks for 100k miles on my 72 with drop spindles and 3 inch drop springs. Never bottomed out the shock. They are plenty good for 3 inch drop coil application.

In the rear, again ECE sourced shock, true pn 244055 works well with a 6 inch drop and aftermarket shock extenders like ECE, etc. This shock will allow the axle to bottom completely to the frame and still not fully collapse the shock. With 6 inch coils and any lowering block combo it will serve you well. Keeping in mind that only the coil affects shock travel. A lowering block does not affect the shock length.

I am still a little confused on the rear shocks for a 71 with coils, I read several different KYB part numbers in this thread. 344055, 344085, 344067, 244055. Mine is dropped 4" with the springs and I want to be sure and order the correct shock. I was going with the 344055 but when I look it up it is for a Fiat and a Nissian Quest, which are both much smaller vehicles.

I would appreciate any input.

Call ECE... they sell 2/4 drop kits which utilize the KYB shocks. They should be able to sell you the correct shock within a couple of minutes. Not reservations, the shocks will work.

I called ECE and they tell me they use the same shock on the rear of these coil sprung trucks no matter how much it has been dropped. Problem is I was going to order from summitt to save a $ and I am still not sure of the correct KYB part number.

As many know, there are several threads related to shocks for lowered trucks. I gleaned a bunch of useful info. Here is some that should answer the question about 4 in. drop in the rear.. You can take these numbers and cross reference them to whatever brand you like.

thanks for the info, according to your chart I would need the KY 4095, however when I call summitt they say that is not a good part number and cannot cross it over to a KYB number, so I am still confused.

My bad, in a hurry to get the info posted I should have pointed out some of these numbers came from the CPP website. I believe they are re-numbering the KYB shocks before they ship them. I will have to dig back and find the equivalent numbers.
