OMG. I just ran out and checked and no. ahaha. I finally got it out. It literally only took about 10 mins if that. Really easy.

Bought my 67 from a friend who says he has the keys but I doubt he can find them along with the title, now he lives a ways away so now im wondering what to do when the time comes to start it up.

Its actually very easy. Buy a cylinder from your dealership. It was 14 bucks and comes with 2 keys. Basically when there is no key in the cylinder there is a little metal block that sticks out not allowing it to turn. So what you do is when the ignition is in the updown position, just move to the left about 1/8 of an inch and drill in about an inch. It will go pretty easy. Then you just move it left and right for a bit. Put your pin in the little hole and turn it and screw the bezel out. Easy.

Ripping the metal face off might (depending on the design of the lock cyl) allow you to unscrew the benzel. I never tried to save my switch, just swapped out everything.

There are two little metal bars that keep the cylinder inside, not just that face. One side you push a pin in, the other you have to drill out so it will fall inwards as if there was a key in it...

I took the new tumbler and located where the rod is that sticks out when the key wasnt in it. I then punched it and took a 3/16 bit, NO BIGGER, and drilled in about 1.5 inches. Then i put a pin in the other hole and wiggled it around until the bar i drilled falls in the whole where the tumblers were.

Super easy.

You still have to get the ignition apart.

I think I would have bought a new cylinder and switch. then just connect it, leaving it hang under the dash. about that time I would find the key on top of the dash next to the windshield. but then i would have a spare setup for when the other craps out.

I have done this for MANY of the Vehicles I own!
Get a copy made at the Locksmith (less than $3.00) and get one of those Emerngency Key Keepers (looks like a C.C.) and put it in my Wallet.
Simple/Easy and you've always got a spare.

HAHA, I actually got up and went and looked.. I put up a nail awhile ago, but it was holding airhose, no keys.

Throughout my build, I left my keys in the ignition 100% of the time. It's not like anyone could steal my truck, you know. No motor in it. But now I'm driving it again, and you just reminded me to go get some spares made. Glad you got the ignition solved, hopefully you find the old set for the doors.

I have a single key that works for the door and ignition on my 71. I lost the key and just took the cylinder from the door to Bulger lock and key in Seattle and had a new one made.

How much did that cost you? My key is so old it doesn't hit all the thingys (I don't know the right name), and my key is also the same as the door.

Thats what i was going to try, but i didnt know if they could. Now i know. sweet.

i turned the ignition to the ON position last night for the first time in 2 years.. THAT made me nervous...Also had some interesting stuff happen in my build. I posted that in my build thread.

Re: What a bummer.

you can pop the front cover off the ignition cylinder, and unscrew the bezel. Take the ignition out and take it to a lock smith and they can make you a new key. Or just replace the ignition with one with a new key

I don't remember exactly, but not a lot, less than 20 bucks, maybe less than 10? I remember being amazed at how cheap it was. I guess I was expecting a lot more based on "locked out at 3 am in a snowstorm and had to call a locksmith" stories.

I'll have to look into it then. Thanks.
