Re: 409 ?
Hi Everyone,
I am still trying to decide on the 409.. I found one completely rebuilt for $5500, one that needs rebuilding for $2500, and another one with assembled heads and short block for $3000 with a crossram intake and carbs, and I found a free 348. Do I dare to be different or am I going to regret it. The real issue is I want/need to fix the few soft spots on the truck and get it painted, I need to re-upholster the seats and I need to get the 2004R or the 700R4 installed and swap in the 3.73 when hottrucks gets done playing. My 350 in the truck now only needs a set of heads. It has 305's on it now and I was going to find a set of aluminum heads just for aesthetic reasons. I just don't know where to begin.. and I can't decide which order to do things as I cannot afford everything at once.... what would YOU do??? |
Re: 409 ?
If there are "must do" items on the list, put the 409 on the back burner. When the right motor eal comes along, you'll know.......;)

Re: 409 ?
Just finished an article in Chevy High Performance about the new aluminum world products 409 block. They made a solid argument for going with a new block over taking a chance with a used one.
BTW - I'm not familiar with the 409 or the 348 so correct me if this isn't the same motor. http://www.worldcastings.com/product...nch-block.html |

Re: 409 ?
409? sexy beyond belief!! The stuff previously posted is true, I have a customer that has a 409 Impala. There are no provisions for bolting anything to the front of the heads like on a SB or a BB. The Impala that I work on has a Vintage air front runner on it. Here is a mouth watering web site for the not weak of heart to enjoy. To have a 409 in your PU would be cool, as long as you can sustain the cash flow. Never had much experience with these, but sexy cool.
