Re: Odometer
Here's my spare electronic speedo that I pulled apart to reset to "000,000.0" for demonstration purposes only. Mind you that if'n I ever need to put this unit back into use I'll either swap out the odometer with my original one or reset this one yet again to match my current mileage. I don't have any desire to get busted for turning back an odometer on any vehicle to show less miles than what on it from the day it was ORIGINALLY MADE. Federal offence that is. Anywhere. PERIOD.
Start by making note of the speedo needle position. Then, using a fork, slip the tines of the fork under the base of the needle and GENTLY pry it up and off it's shaft. Then the 2(TWO) screws in the face of the gauge and remove the face. Then the retainer clip for the odometer and slide the odometer to the left to release the right side and lift it out. On the back side of the odometer you'll see a plastic retainer that may or may not be in good pliable condition remove it VERY CAREFULLY as to not break it. If you do break it you can make a new one out of a thin piece of stiff plastic like the clam-shell packaging of replacement wiper blades using the old retainer as a pattern, an X-ACTO knife, a steady hand & patience. Now you should be able to reset, from left to right, the mileage so that it matches your original miles on your vehicle. reassemble and everything should work without a hitch. I've only done this when putting in a new engine or tranny. With no intent to defraud .And they imply it's ok if it's disclosed.Oh and i don't sell cars I only buy em.But someone could easly put in a different/lower milage cluster, heck i did that cause the Plainsman was in miles not km
This cluster was one set to 000000 for my 81 lemans, wish it was a clearer pic.this was done in 93. |
