Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
OEM4ME your truck is truly a sight.... to be that mint and gently used without any kind of overhaul. WOW.
Is that a Delco battery? Also that looks like th standard wheel, but without a closer look I'm not sure I recognize your horn button, I thought it would normally have the orange bowtie on it? |

The horn button is orig standard for '66. The bowties are earlier. |

I am pretty sure this is a restored example, but it is very clean and as far as I can tell, alot of attention to factory correct detail.
at some point it was sold and the aluminium grille was replaced with a aftermarket chrome one, not sure if that was before or after these pics. |

a couple big trucks... yet again probably restored...
very often these big ones are low mileage, especially ones that were used for hauling hay on the farm..sometimes they don't even have a title , because they went straight from the dealership to the farm , and never left the property again. A real nice 66 like this turned up at the chevy dealer in town last year, it might have been a consignment, but was super clean , still had relatively shiny black paint on the frame, and the underbody. |
Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
Nice. Is the V-12 in the yellow one?

anothe great way to find a clean low mileage 60-66, is to source an old fire truck, they are always kept up real nice, and almost always have the full chrome package.
yet again I do not know if this one is restored, or is untouched, but it is very original. |

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
I got to hear that V12 run. What a sound! That truck was owned by the late Fred Craig of Lorton,VA. He had quite a collection of heavy duty GMC trucks from the '40s to the '70s. Sadly,Fred died after a couple year bout with leukemia. He was responsible for the creation of the Tri-State Regional Truck Show of the National Truck Historical Society held in late September in Winchester,VA.
The more years go by,the more I appreciate all original trucks. I've always been torn two ways because I'm a modifier (hot rodder) at heart. But,have always had a full appreciation of what trucks are,as they are,how they were used, how there's always been those with high respect towards their trucks, how they can be outfitted to imrove their usefulness,as well as being a significant part of American history. I won't be hapy until I have at least one all original vintage GM Truck in my garage. I am for preservation,as long as the snotty nature stays out of it. Something about snotty and truck just don't fit right. After all, that's what Packards are for. |

Yep. Not too long ago, a guy sent me a picture of a C-60 with well under 1000 original miles (I think even less than 500), but the truck was cosmetically torn up. I'm guessing it was used on a farm, stored outside, and there you go. Low miles does not always translate to pristine condition. TLC and indoor storage is the ticket. |
Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
These are pretty original looking. The hubcaps are wrong on the first one:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...pick-up-12.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/DSCN0159.jpg It has always been rare to see a truck left totally original. It's actually period correct to see items added, changed,or replaced with an upgrade. It's not a matter of being considered "just a truck" but more like them being considered "a truck". Even well optioned highly desired collector cars would have been personalized from day one. People weren't buying classics for people to collect 40 years later. They were buying a new vehicle to use in whatever way suited their needs. This one has looked like this since brand new: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...aturedGMC5.jpg So has this one: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...068515B25D.jpg And this one: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...00Q855B15D.jpg And another: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...rexE35B15D.jpg |

Just sight-seeing from the squarebody section, but I had to compliment the owners of these surivors... Thanks for a pleasant reminder of how beautiful these trucks are right out of the box. The '64 - '66 are my all time favorite body style and these trucks are all stunning. Thanks!
Makes up for my neigbor's never-washed-since-new '65 with ladder rack that I pine for every morning on the way to work! |
Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
i had found an original estate sale truck probably 1-2 years ago on Craigslist...it was somewhere in TN....i should've saved some pics, & i wish i would've had the $6k to buy it at the time....and i almost bought this light green '66 which was for sale on Craigslist...if i remember correctly, it had an original 283/Auto with about 100k original miles...:

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
Hey oem4me
I remember seeing your truck at a car show in the parking lot of the chevy dealership in Burbank a few years back I was vary impressed with your find. |
Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
Thanks forestb, That was the VCCA show (Vintage Chevrolet Club of America).
I've been lucky enough to win "Best of Show" in it's class three out of three years entered there. Three is enough, someone else can win next year. |
