Re: Bolt in steering rack
Very interesting,
If it is possible to manufacture this kit to be affordable and still make a profit, I think it would sell like crazy!! |
Re: Bolt in steering rack
Agreed!:smoke:

Re: Bolt in steering rack
OK guys, it's looking good so far. This kit will include a P/S rack, mounting kit, machined tie rod adjusters, Lower steering U-joint, Drivers side motor mount, lower steering shaft, and probably two cutom fitting for the rack. Now, what do you think is a fair price point. Looks like the kit would be in the 775 range. Not to far off of a complete rebuild of the factory P/S, and our rack kit cuts bumsteer to .192 deg. in 3" travel either side of RH. Well?

Re: Bolt in steering rack
Let's see so for $775 ill do away with all the steering components tha tke that nice look away and that huge steering box that leaks and look ugly get to keep my stock crossmember that already was disc brakes and keep my bag set up.BUT get the modern feel of a rack and pinion? Well sir you can count me in....

Re: Bolt in steering rack
Here is a snag for ya what about us ls motor transplant guys I am using ece mounts....... 775.00 is a good price point for the rack..... I am in if I can get the motor mount situation solved!

Re: Bolt in steering rack
I am curious on the accommodation of the lsx swaps with different styles of engine perches myself?
|
Re: Bolt in steering rack
Any updates?
|
Re: Bolt in steering rack
Will the kit work with a sectioned crossmember?
I can't see myself spending the 775 for a R&P any time soon, but if it works with a a sectioned crossmember, it sounds like a cheaper way to have good steering and be able to lay frame. |
Re: Bolt in steering rack
still working on it. As a plus, the guys at Painless are building a C-10 for the Power tour, and they made me promise to have one for them. So, now I have a deadline, to help spur me along.

Re: Bolt in steering rack
Hey Rob,
No disrespect to Nate as he's helped me out a bit and a super fellow by email, but I have CPP upper and lower tube arms, bags etc already. I'm trying to save a bit on an expensive build that has just started(or my wife will shooooot me!). Would your new drop member be compatible with other control arms? |
Re: Bolt in steering rack
We're not planning on competing with Porter's Dropmember. What we have in the works is a Power Rack and Pinion upgrade to the stock crossmember. As it will be a tunabe install, it should work fine with ANY aftermarket set of arms. - regardless of any wheel placement or caster changes from the arms. - - - Buy your wife a nice Valentines gift. Happy Wife = Happy Life.

Re: Bolt in steering rack
I here ya....you both sound like you have great integrity.....good stuff. I own a business here as well and do the same. U 2 are awesome...keep it up....you'll go along way...you too Rob.
OK...so either a change all or try the R/P with my existing K-member. Super.....I'll watch and decide. And I will.....but she still loves me????......I hope...LOL thanks |
Re: Bolt in steering rack
ok, I have 2 questions about this set-up. Should be fine with a 6-cyl application right? and manual rack should work just fine as well, right? Thanks! $775 seems fair
|
Re: Bolt in steering rack
Hmm, never thought of that one. 6 cyl. is no problem, but we will not be offering a manual rack option - sorry. If we did, I don't think you would be happy with us, and it would end up a loose-loose. We try to avoid that as much as we can. It would be easy enough to put a p/s pump on the 6 cyl :)

Re: Bolt in steering rack
If anyones interested I did a power rack on a C10 about 8 years ago.
heres a link to it. It cost about $300 to do. You will need some good fab skills. http://www.thehollisterroadcompany.com/rackpinion.html |
Re: Bolt in steering rack
That link looks like lots of work and the outcome doesn't look that great. To many ifs. Im gonna wait it out till robs done then make a choice from there..thanks for the link tho.
