Re: '71 Chevy got delivered yesterday

So the thing I knew I had to fix when I bought it was a very bad exhaust leak the seller told me it was the donut gasket. Well last night I decided to try to fix it the flange bolts actually came right off then I found out why some already had their hands in there. After I removed the odd items they tried I fit the new donut it made a nice seal so I fired it up only to hear the same leak. Time to go for broke I remove the exhaust manifold without breaking any bolts figuring I am going to find a crack in it all that's wrong is the gasket I bought the 10 dollar gasket cleaned everything bolted it together started her up and it's perfect I am thrilled things rarely go that easy for me . I am liking this truck more everyday although the guys at work can't understand why I am selling an Escalade to drive a 40 year old truck. But who cares I am happy

cool deal! Glad it went well...lots of times bolts break off or round off working with exhaust!

Two of my trucks were Camper Trucks too. They sure help preserve the bed.

Post some pics of the engine compartment when you get a chance. Good Buy!

I assume the CST (Custom Sport Truck) option means it's a Cheyenne?

Blacktop I too like the Ochre but i want to put wheels on it however I want it to be era and condition correct this may sound odd to some but I feel the stock wheels will go back on it if it gets restored the current plans are for it to be my DD

It's a completely normal thing to be drawn to an old car or truck. Only happens to real truck guys though. Others just cannot see the attraction. Only the newest gadgetry will do for them. Old trucks have character, are simpler to operate and work on. That's not to say they can't be a pain sometimes. Looks like you are starting with a real nice original so you are a leg up on a lot of guys. Enjoy it.

I like that set up myself. Whatever you like though, that's what makes it fun.

I bought a 71 C20 sometime back. It has a driver repaint over ochre (done before I purchased it). It was done ok but, in hind sight I should have waited for a great find like yours (less to hide/fix). Have a great one!

Boog nailed it: "It's a completely normal thing to be drawn to an old car or truck. Only happens to real truck guys though. Others just cannot see the attraction."

Any guy who questions such a decision should have their "Man Card" revoked...on the spot!

Classic truck > Escalade

Who hauled it for you? I've always been hesitant to buy an outwest vehicle because of the shipping being so expensive.

What are your plans for this truck? Restoration or drive it as it is? If restoration, take a lot of pictures of all the changes you make to it.:chevy:

That is the best feeling, when it goes easy, especially with prior experience thinking it could have some major problem.

Nice truck, congrats.

Re: '71 Chevy got delivered yesterday

Seeing as this one is going to be my DD I did plugs wires cap rotor oil and filter has a new starter and battery the fuel pump was leaking yesterday so I changed that today and don't laugh but I put new wiper blades on it oh and yesterday I did the front brakes all I think I need right now are tires and I can register it I will continue to do more but I would like to drive it , work is only 2 miles away but even that is better than nothing. I checked the tranny fluid it was full and clean I hear mixed reviews about what to do and not do when it comes tranny service on an older vehicle What are your thoughts?

Re: '71 Chevy got delivered yesterday

So I found a small leak where the heater hose hooks to the heater core with any luck it was the hose so I changed the hose and we will see! So does anyone have advice or opinions on what I should or shouldn't do to the transmission?

Re: '71 Chevy got delivered yesterday

Congrats! Very nice truck and the 396 is even nicer. When you changed the brakes did you check the brake hoses? Not long after I got my '63 I had a hose bust on me and that's not a good feeling while going down the road.
