Yes sir... thats the plan. While driving this one I will build up the LS, get a good tranny and have the rolling frame all ready for the body swap :)

Im pretty stoked about this one.

Sounds like a GREAT plan!!! Going to be nice you can drive it while you work on the other....and then you can probably get it swapped over in a weekend or at most a couple weeks once everything's ready.

Then, you can part out the leftovers from the red truck....or throw all the gmc's parts on it and sell that one!

You did good. You managed to prove us wrong about finding nice trucks for 6k. No doubt you got a smoking deal there, but it doesn't appear to have A/C.

BTW- Better get those plug wires off the headers. They won't last long like that.

That IS a lot of Truck for $6K.
I was just wondering the Circumstances around the sale/asking price?
The Economy is Bad and people are parting with "Toy's, they said that they would NEVER part with.

In 2005 I sold my 67 C-10.
Bought it for $4K and put about $10K into it.
Sold iot for $8K
Thats where my GM ZZ383/425HP engine went. Daymn!!!

But we need some pictures (more pictures).

Re: Wife approved spending $6000 on daily driver!! WOOOHHOO

I really dont know how I got so lucky with this one. The truck is in good shape but it is defiantly not perfect. There is some fiberglass and bondo work that has been done to it. I really am curious to know how the rust repair was done on it. I will find out when I decide to have it media blased and repainted. It looks flawless in the pics and from far away but when you get close to it there are alot of things that stick out. One thing that really baffles me in the cab supports. they almost look home made with some bondo on them. I will take tons of pics tomorrow and post them up. There are a few other small things that bother me that I will fix in the next few days like a bad exhaust leak around one of the headers...there is a bolt missing and I havent played with it yet but I hope its not stripped, one of the exhaust braces has broken so the exhaust bangs around under the truck when in turns, the battery that was in it was crazy bad... after driving it for a little bit the truck would REAK, the battery was boiling (simple change of the battery and cleaning up all the acid eatn crap on the battery tray wire brushed taped off and painted with rustolem) Also the tranny is leaking.. I bought a gasket today, now I just have to find the time to fix it. Its going to be a pain since you have to move the xmember.

Anyway.... here is the story behind it. He posted it for sale around April for $16000 This is his post on another forum.

Quote:

I have this listed on a few other forums. If there are any other ones that you can list this on for me it would be greatly appreciated. I have it listed for $18,000 elsewhere.

MCE Price: $13,000

ALSO: If you find me a buyer, I will pay you $200 cash money, PayPal, beers, etc.

I'm putting my 1968 Chevrolet C10 up for sale. It's a fantastic truck and I drive it anywhere and everywhere. Putting it up for sale as it's just a garage sitter and weekend/nice day cruiser... Looking for something else more directed towards driving more (not that this isn't capable, just aiming more towards CTS-V or Lexus of sorts). Here is just a quick and brief overview of what has been done to the truck to give you an idea. Of course with it being 40+ years old, there has been plenty of things done to the truck and the list would go on for days with all of the little parts that have been replaced.

Again, this was a frame-off restoration done a little while ago with the intentions of still driving it. Since the restoration about 30,000 miles have been put on it (not too many people can say that about their old cars, eh?). When you look under the truck, the restoration shows. It is spotless even with its driving.

Suspension:
Lowered 5" up front via drop spindles and springs
Lowered 7" out back via springs
Converted to a "Fat Man" type front end with 5 lug and disc brakes (still drum in the rear)
Power brakes
Power steering
Just recently aligned
Staggered 15" steelies off a GMC (I want to say 6" and 8" wide... May be 8" and 10")
Yokohama Geolandar H/T-S tires staggered 215/75 and 265/75 for cruisin'

Drivetrain:
Worked over 350 with healthy cam, heads, 4 barrel carb, intake, headers, full exhaust dumped under bed, full MSD ignition, etc... General things you would do to a 350 without really getting into the internals
Turbo 350 trans
Custom driveshaft w/loop
12 bolt rear w/highway gear
Fuel cell mounted under the bed

Interior:
Black carpet and floormats
Leather two-tone bucket seats
Matching dash
Steering wheel from a GMC (still has GMC center cap)
Still utilizes the factory gauges for everything
Center console
Tilt wheel (very hard to find)
"New" radio with iPod hookup
Speaker "box" behind the seats where the fuel tank used to be... two speakers hidden
Heat/air fan
Floor vents

Exterior:
All trim pieces have been replaced
All weather stripping has been replaced
Sportier era-correct mirrors
Bed-liner
Rear wheel wells have been tubbed out
Essentially an all factory look, but all new parts

Awards:
Has won various car show awards including "best in class", "best truck", "best driver" (I actually drove this truck on a daily basis back and forth from work - about a 90 mile round trip - for a while) among others
Most recently won "Ride of the Month" on my local car club's forum "Muscle Car Evolution"

Again, there is a ton of things I am leaving out, but I want to get the big items out of the way.

It took me a LONG time to find this '68. I've been on the search for a '68 that's worth a damn for who knows how long and I finally found this one. '67s and '68s are the best looking Chevy trucks in my opinion, but it is so difficult to find an actual year model one. Majority of the finds are '69-'72 with the front clip from a '68 put on... But this is a TRUE 1968 Chevrolet C10 Fleetside Shortbed. To add more to its luster, I do have the actual title for it in my name as well.

I will work on getting some motor pictures soon along with overall better quality pictures.

The truck is not 100% perfect. Things of interest:
There are a couple spots you can see where the previous owner hit a scratch with touch-up paint
A ding in the middle of the bed right below the back glass with a scuff in the paint at that area
An ever-so-slight bubble in the paint above the right-rear wheel
No E-brake
Hazards do not work (blinkers DO)
Reverse lights do not work (never been a concern to me so never tracked it down)
Horn is not wired
Cigarette lighter is there, just not wired

Aside from that...Spot on truck. Body is straight as can be and in fantastic condition. Everything on the truck functions as it should from the high beams on the floor to the factory tilt wheel and blinkers and cabin light.

The truck has been appraised by my insurance company for $20,000 (and this is from the guys that have to pay out should something happen to it!). NADA gives it a value as a "20 footer" for $18,065. There has been a LOT of money put into this truck to get it to this stage. Nothing but the best parts have been used and everything has been done right. I get compliments and thumbs up every time I drive it... And man does the cam hit hard :D Surprisingly enough with the Turbo 350 and what has been done to the motor, I still average about 15 or so MPG with me driving it as a toy.

If you have any questions regarding the truck, don't hesitate to get in touch with me. With work, E-mail is the best form of contact XXXXXX@yahoo.com or PM me through here.

$16,000

Re: Wife approved spending $6000 on daily driver!! WOOOHHOO

Over the past few months he had several people look at it but no one showed him the cash. He even had one guy drive all the way from ?Texas was in the driveway for 5 minutes and said he tought it was a 72 and he turned around and left. Brought a trailer with him and was ready to get it. He lowered the price a few times asking for offers and saying he needed a quick sale. In June he lowered it to $10,000...then in late june he said $8000 had a sale pending and it fell thru so it went to $7000. thats when chevyman95 turned me to his post on another forum. I PMed him my number and asked him to text me at ANY TIME. He text me at 1.30am that same night and we planned on meeting at 3pm.

Now I have looked at many trucks in the past few months and NONE have been up to par for me. This one was above and beyond. It was perfect for me. I drove it, everything was fine, I got under it and everything on the suspension looked really clean (the restore was a frame off with a mild cnotch). It would crank right up with no knocks. I felt comfortable with $7000 but I really wanted to talk him down a little bit. (The wifes budget had a lot to do with this... lol) I have learned my lesson with the last truck I bought...it looked perfect and after media blast I got a ton of surprises... So I was really nic-picky with this truck and pointed out the flaws to him. I offered him $6000 and he countered with $6500. I stuck with $6000 and also talked to him about the LS1 longblock he had. I bundled the two together (learned that from American Pickers haha) and I ended up getting the truck for $6000 and the LS1 for $1250 :)

The guy was super nice... Really cool and he knew I would treat this truck right. I showed him my currect progress with the frame I am building and he said to me that is exactly what all he was wanting to do with his. He knew his truck was going to a good home and everything that was going to be done to it will be done RIGHT, well documented, and babied! So I think that helped him sell it to me for that price too.

Ill post pics of the LS tomorrow too.

The body needs to be in perfect shape, all rust repair done and a great running gear. Im not too worried about suspension bc mine is pretty much complete.

Any help would be GREAT!!! I really need to hurry while she is being so generous. :metal:

The wife gave you the ok to buy something? I have that same problem too! Did you give the ok on the new living room or dining room set? I wasn't even asked my opinion. I think her friends or her sister gave my ok for me. Do wives go to some kind of training school that gives them the power to ok stuff you want? Sorry...I got carried away.

All I did was buy my Wife a new 2011 Camaro for her 50th BD,

So when I need something for my 72 GMC, it's pretty much,

Did you have a buyer/driver clause in that birthday present so you could drive it once in a while. Nice Camaro, and nice truck. Now get the LS in it.

Believe it or not, I don't driver "Her" Vehicles unless I absolutley HAVE to.
We share a 2005 GMC Ext Cab (but I drive it most of the time).
Then I drive my 72 GMC.

She has the 2011 Camaro and for the "Top Down Days", she has her Saturn Sky Redline Convertible.

If Mamas happy...then EVERYBODYS Happy!;)
