Thanks for all the complements guys, you guys motivate me and glad to be part of this great group of people and hopefully motivate some of you ! I been wanting to make a floating grill since the 65 truck but never got around to it until so here it goes:
First i went to home depot and bought some long bolts and drawer knobs and a metal bar , i bought a fence tension bar it was smaller wide and half the price of the 1/8 flat stock bar they sell. I already had the bullets(i bought bullets for two different place's and they used different bolt sizes so i suggest buying all the bullets from one place to make it easy getting longer bolts) so parts cost me $16: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/005-10.jpg http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/004-9.jpg First i cut out the expanded metal part of the grill i still need to buy a file or a grinding disk for grinder and clean up around the opening where the expanded metal was cut out!(when i took grill off truck i cut the center support from the back side): http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/001-8.jpg http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/002-12.jpg http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/003-9.jpg Next i layed out a pattern i liked and then evenly spaced and marked the bar i measured and cut it came out to 4' in between headlight buckets: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/006-7.jpg http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/007-7.jpg Then i drilled the bar accordingly to the marks i made with the diffrent size drill bits and tightened the bolts to bar i used lock-tight on the nuts because i forgot to buy lockwashers (had to use three diffrent size drill bits because of the two diffrent size bolts on bullets and the knob size bolt): http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/008-5.jpg Then i mocked up the bullets and held the bar in place in center of grill opening and marked a mounting point on each end and drilled a hole: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/009-5.jpg These always help bed is full of empty Amp cans!: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/002-13.jpg Then i pulled it all apart and painted the bar and bolts black: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/010-6.jpg next step was to pull grill and cut the center support and then i scuffed up and cleaned the backsplash and taped and painted it black: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/012-8.jpg http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/001-9.jpg http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/006-8.jpg Painted the brackets on the backside of the headlights black: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/004-10.jpg Painted the grill white: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/005-11.jpg Put the bolt bar in and drilled and bolted it in(painted the bolt heads black) and then used black zip ties to hold center of bar to the crossed bar grill support of radiator on the to bars: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/009-6.jpg http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/010-7.jpg And here it is installed i am thinking im going to build some spacers and space it out a little farther an i need to clean up where the expanded metal was cut out in grill opening but the general look: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/011-9.jpg http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/012-9.jpg you can pull out the bullet grill bar without pulling the the main grill off truck or vise-verse.....Hope you guys like it!!!! |

The heel is doing better the doctor gave me the ok to use a hiking boot so its been about two weeks walking in one....or should i say limping around like a pirate with a peg leg;) but at least i dont have a huge walking boot and crutches anymore. It feels like everytime you take a step it feels like having a sprained ankle.The last x-ray you could see the ankle joint which the doctor said most the time you dont so thats good news...just taking it day by day and seeing how it goes no word of surgery yet..

lug nut king heres a link:http://lugnutking.com/ i think they are 8 bucks each i suggest getting 5 because one you will use to gauge the hole and it gets pretty scratched up since its just aluminum, i got 4 but already have 1 more ordered and waiting for it to come to replace the one i scratched up, the guy is cool he said everybody calls back and orders a 5th one LOL :lol:

Not much of a update just some stuff i picked up and put on....First off i wanted a tach but i forgot the other aftermarket gauges were black and bought a white one and destroyed the packaging before i realized it was wrong ,so I maybe swapping it out later for a black faced gauge, and then i picked up a Re-pop classic accessory flashlight and holder that goes on the column, the column was to big to clamp it around so i modified the flashlight bracket to use the tach to hold it to column, it wasnt a vintage one so i didnt fell bad...

I love the floating grill! wish I could do it to mine but it really doesn't go with the 4 wheeler look. Dig the tach too. I've got the same one installed in the guage cluster in black. Looks stock enough for me. Your truck's coming along great. You've made alot of progress for sure and it's good to hear you're healin up ok. I've got to figure out a way to have two... a 4x4 and a 2wd. Then I could do alot of the custom stuff I see you guys doin to the right truck. No more custom envy!

Well i picked put some blue dots and decided to try and install them on my old lens, ive drilled lens before but it is always risky chipping or cracking them,i know from experience! So i tried a new technique which worked well for me that you guys might like it....

Ya have two yardbirds, I feed them all the time so they follow me around the yard like dogs, really domesticated will jump up on your arm if you hold it out straight!
