i agree, great job...that's some nasty looking rust that you were dealing with, & i would've been hesitant to tackle a project like that myself....keep up the good work, & i look forward to the progress

Nice work MOTO
Those appear to be mid '70's spindles (and ball joint) on your '66 lower A arms.
It will all work fine.

nice job on the metal work. i just have to say one thing. you are crazy. that person would have to pay me $400 to take that truck. i live in california and i don't think i have ever seen a truck that rusty. maybe something they pulled out of the ocean? you have done an amazing job on it. keep it up. and welcome to the site.

LOL and thanks... I was looking to do a early 30's sedan for a rat rod and came across this truck. I figured it would be a fun project and had plans to make it a rat rod with license plates as interior and all the other fun ideas I had. Plus this truck already had the power disc brakes and a small block in it so I figured that alone was worth the price. It has been a lot of work and a good learning experience for sure but the truck has progress way further then my rat rod ideas. It's going to be a military theme truck and I already have a lot of cool ideas and things made for the truck I don't want to post them yet until I get them finished so stay tuned....

Havent updated in a while but I have been busy working... Try to get the truck ready for the Daytona Turkey Rod Run but looks like I ran out of time.

So I was walking around the swap meet the other day hopeing I would find a bed front for my truck. I found one for a fleet side bed but the more I looked at it I figured I could just chop it and weld it to fit. So for $25 and a little time I now have mt bed front done.

Here are some pictures...

So now that I got the bed front done I could start to lay out the bed and see what needs to be done..

I noticed I was missing some of the supports so I made some out of street sign post that I got from the streets department in the city.

The bed supports were rusted out too so I picked up some angle iron, cut out the old rusted ones, and welded in some new ones..

Set my pinion angle and welded up the rear end and welded in the pan hard bar too..

I was missing one of the latches on my tailgate so I decided to try my limited fabrications skills and make one. I used the plates you see in the picture that I got from Home Depot, cut them, ground them, and welded them together. It actually turned out really good and after grinding it down and shaping it you can hardly tell I made it...

This is the factory one..

And this is the one I made..

I want to post this picture of my door. This was the first time I ever did a repair this big and after I cut the rusted part out and welded in the new panel I noticed that there was a peak where the metal met. Im not sure how well it shows in the picture but it was pretty bad. I didnt want to just lay Bondo over the whole thing so I cut the whole panel off and pounded it with a hammer and dollie. I ended up getting it really smooth and was able to weld it all back together again. I impressed myself on this one. Ill try to post a picture of the after later...

Well after about nine months of hard work and learning along the way, I was finally able to paint the truck. Its a military theme truck so I painted it a custom blended flat Olive drap green. I painted the truck in the garage and most of the panels outside in the driveway.. The neighbors just love me!!

Here are some pictures of the color. I cant wait to start getting this thing back together...

So tell me what you think?????

hey bro nice work on the body work. what do you think caused the peak on the door, just not having the metal lined up 100%? where did you buy that patch?

my '62 has rotted doors I may fix later. my 61 I'm thinking just the sills tho. your thread makes me want to give more patch panels a try ;)

I had it lined up right but the door has a natural curve to it. The patch panel is from LMC and it got kind of flattened during shipping. I never did a repair like this so I thought I would be good just welding it on but I was wrong. I had to cut the door panel off on the body line and then pound the crease out with a hammer and body dollie I picked up from Harbor Freight. After some work I was able to get it pretty smooth and welded the panel back on. A thin coat of body filler and the door looks really good. This was the trickiest panel that I had to deal with and it would be the most noticable so Im glad it worked out....

I didn't even think about harbor freight for body tools... LOL. I need to make some investments, glad you mentioned that!

Thanks for the compliment.. :chevy:

The square holes in the front fender are for some side marker lights that are off of a Range Rover. Not sure what most will think of them but they will go along with eveything that Im doing to the truck.

Good eye on the front bumper. I hate to spill the beans right now because I want to get the truck further along with all the stuff Im doing to it. I came up with this idea one night while working in he garage and watching an episode of American Chopper.

Because of the military theme I thought it would be appropiate to have some guns mounted to the front so what better then some homemade Mini-Guns.. Here is a picture of them unpainted and not yet mounted but you get the idea.

Dude...
from '85 to '92 I was a gunner on a M167A1 Vulcan.
Your 6 barrel set up looks exactly like the business end of my old weapon system. It was a badazz gun pumping out 3,000 of the 20mm rounds per minute at targets 2.5 miles away.
You totally made my jaw drop on this one!
