You mean to tell me you havent tried to drive it yet !!! battery would have been first on mylist (and a small can of gas ) then if all else failed I would have towed it !! Have fun keep us informed , I would love to have a nice cab like that ...

A couple of those shots sure remind me of my 'ol '62 GMC 6500. The wheel base is about the same too. I love those wide front fenders.

Well it has been a while and this truck has been sitting around. I thought I had it sold and after driving me nuts about it for a couple months and putting money down on it last January, the guy has back out of the deal so it is still mine for now.

Anyway, I decided that today was the day to see if it will run. I put a battery in it and it cranked right over. Dumped some gas in the carb and still just cranked. Check spark and compression on one cylinder and found the compression is good but no spark. Checked the coil power- good. Removed the dist. cap and looked pretty clean inside. I took out the points and scraped the contacts. I do not have a points file. Reinstalled and did not even gap the points. Cranked to check the coil trigger and spark and the engine fired up. I reattached the spark plug and added a little more gas and the engine ran till the fuel was used up. Then before unhooking the battery I had to make sure the siren still worked-- sure did. I did not leave it on very long because I thought the neighbors might complain. Well that was all for today. I guess the next step is to get fresh fuel to the carb and see if I can keep it running but it was good to here it fire up with very little work.

Haha... That's funny. Sitting all that time and fires up with seemingly very little issue. Now its time to put it to work filling swimming pools!

I can't believe it's been 1 year and 9 months since we last talked about your truck.

Seems almost like yesterday writing my last post on it.

Now that it runs you should tune it up, do the brakes, change all the fluids and drive it like you stole it. Woops this is an old thread. Do you still have it?

I think the fire department let it sit for 10 years before I bought it so I was surprized it was so easy to get it to fire also.

You are right, time does fly right on by. I can not beleived that I have let it sit so long with out doing something with it but just never seem to take the time.

I just really wanted to know it would fire up but now that I know that it will, I need to get some fresh gas and oil in it and probably get the points properly cleaned or replaced and gapped. Then I can fire it up and let it run and see what I have. I still do not have a clutch (hydralic) or brakes so it will not be drivable but at least it will run.

Yes I still have the truck. I just brought it to the top because I got it running today.

I am sure the shipping would be to high so maybe I should keep it. How many 16,000 mile 348 truck engines do you supose are out there?

OK, I have decided that I just really do not want to see this truck sit around and definatly would like to see it get a good home under a roof before winter so I have listed it for sale.

I would really like to keep the 348 but hate to see this complete truck be torn apart. I guess we will see what happens if someone else is interested in it.

dang... This old fire truck would be great "as-is" only shortened up a little bit..
A motorcycle guy should be able to put a ramp in the back of it and drive his bike right up in the back of this thing with very little work...
Oh well-hope the new owner does more than just yank the engine out of it!
