Probably have to take the '70 or '69 kit (or a promo) and build the bed. Wheels are just going to have to be kitbashed from something else. Cheapest way out would be to start with a '72 AMT Cheyenne kit if that is close enough.

SS trim, do you still have that 70 c10 model, i am looking for one to build to match my 69 that i am building. If so please message me. Thanks:chevy:

There was a '70 kit as well as '69. Expect prices to be $100+. To do a shortbed right, you'll need the AMT '72 GMC kit. The one from around 1990 (red truck on box) can be had for about $40. I guess you could find a 69/70 grille in a junkyard lot on Ebay and skip the complete kit. For a SWB Fleetside bed you'll need to scare up a custom-made resin one and tailgate. If you buy complete 69/70 kit you'll have the tailgate.

Thanks, I am 15 years old and I am building my dads 69 stepside SWB that he used to drive to elementary school. he gave it to me a couple months ago, I put a 68 hood on it, rebuilt a 355 CSB with 350hp and put it in:devil:. I will eventually put a fleetside bed on it so I am going to build a model to represent my goal project. I found a 72' SWB fleetside pickup AMT/Ertl #6691 on Ebay from 1998 that im looking to get. There is a 68 hood($4.50) and 69 bumper and grill($8.25) I can get from modelhaus.com, Thank you for your information.:metal:

Sounds like you found what you need. Make sure you show it to us when it's done. Sounds like a great story on your truck. Good luck with it.

Back in the late 60s I had a kit of a 67 or 68 Chevy long bed fleetside with a wrecker bed as well. It also came with a trailer and an early 60s indy race car. I believe it was an AMT kit. It's been a while.. At the time it was a quite a kit.

On the tow truck,MPC's '69 Fleetside kit comes with the same bed as a wrecker but has a fire truck version instead. Those wrecker booms are lame anyway,so you could build that. Especially with the Wreckmaster design I'd think you could mimmick the trussed tube booms fairly easily. There is a later square body snap-fit kit that comes with a realistic tow body/boom as well as real C/30 dual wheels.
First kit is the MPC '69 (upper left),then the AMT GMC SWB Fenderside (lower left),the second release of the same GMC SWB (lower right),and a built snap-fit wrecker. Resin casters make paintable Budd wheels if you don't like the fancy ones. I think I'd build the tow body for yours from plastic stock.

hey, would you sell that red 72 chevy SWB fleetside? someone else is bidding on the one on ebay, its at $15 right now but it has 5 days left. I dont have much money but I'm going to watch it, it will probably get to expensive for me.

Bumping this vintage topic. LOL Almost 6 years later.... prices for the AMT pickups on eBay can get ridiculous. But I've found a couple on Fakebook for decent prices. I also lucked out on a GMC stepside from an estate, for $10. And got one at a model show contest. So I should be set.

Building the wrecker bed is another story.
