Re: Cat 3116 build in 1972 IH Pickup
thank you. it is lots of work, pictures do it justice for the amount of work needed.

Re: Cat 3116 build in 1972 IH Pickup
K. just the title hooked me! I've seen Travelettes with Cummins swaps, IDI IHC swaps, 6.5L swaps, and powerstroke swaps. I've ALWAYS liked Cat engines. I'm in!

still havent got the starter off. as soon as i do will get a vid up
|
Re: Cat 3116 build in 1972 IH Pickup
ok got the starter off yesterday :) had to modify a socket tho, cut it off almost to nothing, just enuf to grab, 1/4 drive 13MM. got the damn thing off now trying to find a pace to test it.
next question how do i fill the block? take the thermostate out and fill with coolant? then hook the rad up? |
Re: Cat 3116 build in 1972 IH Pickup
should have 1/4" bleed lines on it... maybe... I have been around too many C7s to remember too much about 3116s. I would fill through t-stat, but if I remember, Cat engines do air-bleed themselves durring filling... could just always fill with 200deg coolant!
|
Re: Cat 3116 build in 1972 IH Pickup
want to fill block before i start so it has some coolant and dont crack anything. (enigne aint paid for yet)

Re: Cat 3116 build in 1972 IH Pickup
I'm in. My truck is a IHC '65 d1300, 4x4 with a 304. I'd like to swap in a diesel some day. I was thinking more along the lines of a 7.3, but I have to admit that CAT is going to be cool. :metal:
|
Re: Cat 3116 build in 1972 IH Pickup
The cat is cool :) but if you are going 7.3 use the idi version no HEUI bs to ddeal with
