I was back at my parents over the weekend and was able to scan the two pics dad had taken the day he brought home my '72. In the second one, off in the background is me when I was around 4 or 5. I'm almost 28 so that tells you how long we've had it!!

Are those cattle guards rare? I had one that looked exactly like yours on my truck when I bought it, but took it off cuz I couldn't hardly reach the hood latch. I just haven't seen them on very many trucks. Was this a dealer option or did certain trucks only get them or what?

Thanks,
Ryan

The one that I have is actually off a '73 and up. The original style grille guard was so hard to find when we restored it that we ended up making one of these fit. I know that there are more people out there that know more than me about them but from what I know it was a dealer option. Especially in rural southwest Kansas, alot of these pickups had them put on before they got brought home from the dealer. I've hit many a cow in the rear with this style with no damage to the front of the pickup
As for opening the hood...yeah it makes it a real bear to pop the latch..I've skinned my nuckles more than once!!
