Is there a list of what he needs? I have some spare stuff, he's welcome to.

Re: Disaster!!

Thanks a million guys. Most of what was ruined was new stuff and I'm just waiting for the shop owner's insurance to come thru with money for replacement. All of the external stuff on the LS engine will be replaced, the frame has to be stripped back down and re-powder coated, all the front suspension and front brakes will be new and the power steering box replaced.
In the meantime I bought a 65 LWB and some of the parts I have been picking up are for this truck or as a spare for either truck. I appreciate all the kindness, but honestly I'll be fine.
This is what I like most about this forum. Nice to know that there are still a lot of good people out there willing to help out a person in need.
Dean

Well I guess it's time for an update 2 years later.
Slowly but surely the insurance company came through with compensation enough to get this critter back into something more presentable.
I'm busy rough hanging the doors and fenders to help prepare for paint.
Last weekend I put the box together so I could figure out where to make a hole for the gas fill door in the bed. I'm not quite sure I like how it sits because it sits high in the rear end and I want it to sit level. I know it will come down some as I attach the rear fenders and load the fuel tank with gas but I may have to get another set of springs.

Thanks guys. This has been a long term project for sure.
This truck was purchased new by my Grandfather in late 1963 in Montana.
When he passed in 1978 my Mom drove it until she could no longer work the clutch. I brought it out to Washington state in 2003. The first pic is in my driveway after a wash job.

I used it to haul wood and junk till I got the itch to "spruce it up a little".
The second pic is the cab loaded for the journey to Portland for a caustic dip and phosphate coat. That was in 2008. I collected parts and pieces for a few years, bought a 43,000 mile LS 5.3 Silverado engine and 4L60E trans and started in earnest the frame off, complete rebuild.

The fire was almost 2 years ago and if all goes well I may just be able to drive it this year. I know everyone likes pics, so I threw in a few extra.

Wow. That was a huge bummer and you are absolutely right....it could have been a lot worse. Glad your getting it back together, like jumping back up on the horse. Speaking of horses, is that the same lift in the same shop?

Glad to see the fire didn't totally destroy it and that you're back in the game. Looking good.

Glad your friend was okay and you seem to have your priorities in order. While it sucks.... It could have been much worse. Thanks for sharing.

I'm happy to see you have not only got your truck's fire damage repaired, but are a bit farther along. Were all the body parts salvagable?

Looking real good. Looks like you were real patient about the whole bad situation. I'm sure your friend appreciates that.

Glad you are able to save the truck. I've seen many car fires and usually the metal warped beyond fixing. This is a good reminder to keep full coverage insurance on these old trucks.

The shop I'm working out of now belongs to the guy I work for. He is kind and generous enough to let me use it in the winter when he's not in town.
My friends shop where the fire occurred has completely rebuilt it and is really a nice shop now. No more flame inspired heat in his shop!

Thanks, Captainfab. It was more of a fast flash fire with more water damage than heat. I restripped the inner fenders and radiator mount and had to hand sand the cab. That was probably the most time consuming part.
