That fender looks just perfect for that! Great job!

Blackdiesel....I like what you did with the fender. If it was a chevy it would of been much harder with the split fender. I think it looks good even though I am a fan of the 22.5 wheels on these big old truck. I have a 56 gmc lcf in the waiting and I might go the same route with it. there are a lot more wheel options in an 8 bolt also. I got lucky and found a set of the 6 bolt 22.5 alcoa wheels.

Awesome work, that is no small task you have tackled! I wish I had a turbo to relocate!!!

You have an awsome project going on. Looks good so far. I want to do a cab over with a cummins one day myself. Keep the pictures coming.

Re: '56 GMC LCF Cummins Diesel

no pics today guys, sorry! over the weekend I didn't get a whole lot done...

I got my drivers side front fender mocked up which allowed me to blow the front end sheet metal apart to get to the engine to work on a few things. I got my industrial manifold mounted up so i can start on my dog house. need to get the intake tubing mocked up too. still need to get far enough on the floor so i can pull the cab off and finish up a few details then i'll start bolting it down for good. i'll try to get some pics soon!

Re: '56 GMC LCF Cummins Diesel

got the wastegate blocked off and the manifold bolted up. Then i clocked the turbo to make the oil drain face down and the compressor housing to route the intake piping. then started on the dog house.... which honestly isnt going as quickly or as easily as i had hoped. hope to finish roughing it in tomorrow.

What kind of room do you have for an intercooler? I may have a cheap option for you....................

Ok, I'll take a pic of one I have I think might work out for you. The intake and outlet are both at the top and point straight back.

Re: '56 GMC LCF Cummins Diesel

Dieselwrencher, Thanks for your pics and measurments. I don't think it would fit easily but after i get it on the road and depending on what my EGT's do, i may have to back up and get it from you.

Today I finished up my doghouse. I have far more time in it than i care to admit; especially for it to look so utilitarian. Maybe one day when I grow up I'll buy an english wheel and a planishing hammer. But for now I'm stuck with a high schoolers worst geometry homework assignment ever.

Point being, its complete. That was my goal for today. Along with stitching up my front fenders. Which I almost completed too. I still lack the body line in the front, which I should be able to finish tomorrow.

I think the dog house looks good....this is a truck your building....kinda goes with the utilitarian image of the truck. How much foot room do you still have? These trucks are a little cramped to start with. I cut my firewall and front floor out and started from scratch. There is still not a ton of room but more than stock.

Yeah, I know. As for foot room, it is almost non-existant. However it can't be worse than driving a 6 speed trans am with a pair of size 12 Ariats. But thats a price I was prepared to pay to have a cummins in it when I planned the build.

I'd like to go to the extent that you did on your quad cab, but I don't have the time, parts, drive, (or quite frankly) ability. My accelerator is right beside (and I mean RIGHT beside) the left edge of the doghouse. It'll have to do because there isnt another option!

Re: '56 GMC LCF Cummins Diesel

As intricate as that shroud turned out to be, you maybe should have started a build thread just for that alone. :D
The GMC front end is mean looking, I like it. And you see less and less of them around too which makes it even more desireable.
Nice work.

That's not "utilitarian", that's sculpture. Looks like artwork to me.

Nice truck. I'd like to have a set of those 6-lug Alcoas for my 50 GMC 450 firetruck. Like the GMC cabs mo better.

Re: '56 GMC LCF Cummins Diesel

It's been a while since I've been able to make any progress on this truck. Life seems to have gotten in the way. My wife and I are now expecting our first due August the 4th, so it's now or never I'm afraid. I woke up this morning with a strong urge to get back on this project, and tied up a lot of loose ends that get created when you leave a project like this in the shop for a year and a half. I spent today putting the parts I've stolen off the motor back together and reassembled the front clip and made battery trays.

I recently aquired a parts truck that has a good nv4500 5 speed in it. I believe I will try to see what it would take to get that in this truck instead of the 47rh.

Glad to hear you haven't abandon your awesome build. And congratulation on your up coming addition to your family. Maybe your new little girl or boy will help get this build moving along :)
