here is a pic of cross member mounted to frame. I did not remove the bed as I was working alone on this project. I started [facing the back of truck- left to right] of driver side of truck and installed one piece at a time, using a motorcycle jack to give me some clearance off the loosened cross members and frame, to pull out old pieces then install one by one going left to right. I wanted a clean look on bed.

Here is pic of finished bed. No large bolts drilled through wood. All metal strips were reused and cleaned off then rattle can sprayed. For around $150.00 in parts; it was well worth it .

Maybe I missed it, but did you buy anything but the wood and stain or was that the whole $150?

Re: building a great looking wood bed for cheap
spent around $90 on wood. Varnish around $20, miscellaneous bolts, rattle cans, freeze off penetrating oil and sand paper from Home Depot. I had table saw and dado blade on hand. The labor was all done by me. So for around $150 dollars I was able to create the bed by reusing all parts that were salvageable
