Todays progress... Sorry about the blurry picture. Had to order new inner braces for fenders also as the typical rust and dirt pocket shwed up after beating on the fender to get patch fit...

Way to go Troy. Progress! Is that fender sitting on a pick nick table?

Wish I had been there to open boxes. Getting new parts is just the tops.

Fender is looking smooth and fit.

Dave.

It's my makeshift table. Saw horses and an old piece of treated siding! Yea the box was huge and full of alot of peanuts...

Both front fenders fixed, tomarrow I am going to try to get this thing off the ground and get the doors off and start on the cab rust... Going to order one inner fender tomarrow, I think the other one is salvagable....

Fender repair is very well done.

Repairing them is alot better than trying to get some of those china fenders to fit.. They turned out pretty well... Ill have pics of them in primer tomarrow I hope.

Troy, those patches look real smooth. Not a hiccup anywhere. I like them. Looking forward to the fender in primer.

Dave.

Great work, man. I'll definitely be following this one. One question, though. You've been doing this for quite awhile, do you trust buying a repop inner fender? from what I've read on several threads they are considered one of the worst fitting repop parts out there. I'm pretty new at this so I value the opinions of you more experienced builders.

shortbed70 04-06-2013 11:44 AM

Re: Big Red Dog

I'm not really wanting to buy a new one but the problem being the hours I would put into the old one might far outweigh the price of a new one with some fitment issues. I would rather keep the old ones so I need to do more digging on these to see how far the rust goes! The brace under the front will need fabricated but I could order the nose patches for them, the other issue area is where it bolts to the core support on the worst one has some issues too. I know I don't like the re pop fenders so I can imagine how the inners are! Thanks for keeping an eye on this build, will be lots of pics soon.

As has been posted many, many times. Where there is rust, there is more rust.

You are making a lot of progress, Troy.

BTW, my brother found a source for the leaf spring bushings, right under my nose. American Classics. I don't know how many hours I spend searching for those and even included the AC site. Sometimes I feel the internet is a child's game of hide and seek.

Should be through your area in a couple of weeks. I'll let you know the details.

BTW, I am thinking of building a crate/palate for each item to transport. I think it could be done using the mounting holes fairly quickly.

Dave.

Thanks Dave its gettin fun now! They don't want this stuff coming off for sure... I'm gonna try an get the floor panel fit tonight and hopefully in by Wednesday. Let me know if you are in town and your more than welcome to come by and measure and check everything.. The mounting locations would be the best area to bolt something to and was exactly what I was going to do. Good find on the bushings to..
