Re: 71' K10 4x4 SWB project "North to Alaska"
Awsome build. Truck should end up cool too. My truck gun is the 1895 in 45-70. Added wildwest trigger, ejector, xs ghost rings, did a fill on the rear site dovetail and refinished whole thing in duracoat Teflon. If you are not aware of grizzly custom guns you should google them and check out his brush hawg packages. Are you going 50 alaskan to match calibers with a handgun? Love the "big medicine".
Also your truck looks good and great call loosing the 20's. Like your choices in test drivers. |

Thanks Guys, Roxx just let me know when you can pick it up ;) lol
Bojak, I've been thinking about a big revolver as well, hehe we'll see on that. I finished the 50 Alaskan this weekend and started in on the truck again. The gun works well, and there isn'y much to show on the truck, but completely wired the MPFI, ECM, and Ignition. All modded into the factory harness to look semi-original. Then started plumbing heater cores, belts.. ect. |

I then got the tank in and mounted/plumbed as well as the vinyl flooring and the rest of the interior. I then put in a nice hidden receiver hitch for a rear tow point and incase I want to tow a small trailer.

Now it was time for the drivetrain, I got all new spicer "life" series ujoints for everything, I run only these u-joints in everything I have and have yet to have a failure under 100K miles. I also started tearing down the rear diff for a full overhaul with new everything and a Detroit trutrac diff.

This is how she sits today. I am waiting for a rear ring and pinion, and the front Detroit Truetrac and I should have her together in a couple of weeks sans any problems.
I have fired and set the timing on the ramjet and it seems to run great. As the the fuel pump in the cab, you can hear it prime barely before the engine fires but then I can't here any noise from it. Hopefully my parts show up and I can get the front end completely done with new ball joints, tie rod ends, bearings, seals, diff ect... over the course of the next few weekends, as well as button up the rear. Then I can drive her again, and its almost time for all the snow to melt up here so not a second too soon. I also included a pic of the stock axle shafts on the left compared to the 73+ 297x ones I'm using on the right so people can see the differences. I didn't know the older 72 and prior ones necked down so small the whole length. That's Dana 30 size!! |
Re: 71' K10 4x4 SWB project "North to Alaska"

I also got a spare 35" swamper I had laying around mounted up on another rally rim for a spare tire. I then put the drive shafts in and took her for a spin...... and embarrassingly the tranny was howling.

I suspected a bushing I got from trans warehouse since day one as it fit too tight in the granny gear.... I measured it as .010" OD over the old bushing, but it was new and the other was worn I figured? Nope, it was just a sh!t part. So she's back on the lift, I tore the tranny out, and found that bushing burnt up. It also scored up the main shaft and the granny gear. Luckily I have a lathe and a diamond wheel grinder set up to true the shaft and re-grind and I had a spare granny gear. I put it all back together with a new bushing I got locally that measured in correctly. :( this was yesterday so the tranny's back together on the ground and she's still in the air. But, next time I get a day I'll start slapping her back together.
