Re: 62 inline 6 speed ideas
Yea I think just a rearend gear change would get you where you want. I've gone back and forth on this too. Either 5 speed or keep the three and go higher gears. In a weird way I like the three on the column too. Its just different. But a 5 speed would sure be nice too haha. Either way you can't go wrong. Although I would just get it worked out and drive it instead of blowing it apart. Almost anything can be fixed while keeping the truck driveable.

I cannot see any Keith in this thread (but I can miss things easily), can you give me a user name? Thanks for the advice |
Re: 62 inline 6 speed ideas
Kieth hasn't posted on this thread yet which surprises me because stuff like gearing and tire size is one of his strong points. His user name is kieth but I spelled it wrong earlier...sorry, it's i before e. I run a 3.08 gear on my stock 283. It's got the 194 h.p motor and pulls it pretty well with a stock 3 speed column. But if I have to stop on a steep hill, I have to work the clutch to get it to go again. The landscpape is flat around here and trips to the mountains are fine. Just hard to climb one from a dead stop... I'm pretty sure hauling out a boat would not be too easy either. You can affirm your gear ratio by counting the teeth on the ring gear and divide it by the teeth on the pinion gear.

Re: 62 inline 6 speed ideas
The only other gears available for the Eaton HO32 differential are 3.38's. I just don't know if those will give you the performance you are after. I would suggest changing the trans for a Borg Warner T5. There is a local guy that put a T5 in his '62 with a 235, and he says that is the best thing he did to his truck.
