^ some of the later fans are bigger diameter and won't quite fit in a 67-72 factory shroud.four bolts for the shroud and four for the fan i ordered mine from summit has done well i replaced a junk flex fan too. Here some pics. (i have a 4wd fan shroud on mine because my motor is in the back position like a 4x4.)

Anyone know how to set the tension (how many times it needs to be wrapped around) on the bitmetal spring in front? Or have a closeup photo so I can count myself?

I tried heating mine with a heat gun to see if it'd firm up any, but it didn't (if you're just joining us, I'm talking about the clutch fan, not myself). So I wondered if the little spring was maybe out of adjustment, so I moved it ahead one wrap, and back one wrap, and forgot where I started.

Yeah, this is dumb, and yeah, I hate to admit it, but I don't want it to overheat, so any help...

BTW, factory cooling rocks. Why people think all the other ideas they had when they were teenagers were dumb yet stick with braided fake wrap and flex fans I have no idea.

BTW, I will also throw out there: never run a damaged fan. Many fans have over their life hit a radiator or some other obstruction. If it's got a bent blade tip consider tossing it. Out of balance and held on by 3 little rivets you really don't want it to explode next time you're setting the timing advance.

I can tell you from experience that I had a flex fan almost go through my hood on my old 1978 Malibu years ago. Made a huge dent from underneath and I had to repaint my hood. It does happen...... I will NEVER use one again!!!
