Re: How mad should I be, if at all?
I'd say lesson learned. When I go look at these trucks (or anything else) I take a good magnet and a FLASHLIGHT. I haven't looked at one in the dark but if I did I would still have the flashlight.
If the seller states the motor has been rebuilt I also take a set of appropriate valve cover gaskets and some rtv sealant and yes, I'm pulling the valve covers so we will see if the seller speaks with a forked tongue. |

Points taken. I bid on the truck after a Budweiser too many. Talked with the seller on phone. I know it's my bad for not checking when I picked it up. Have had great luck in the past. Either way I still have a smile on my face every time I start it let alone drive it. Most likely not worth the hassle to deal with seller/eBay. Here is a pic of the ol girl for those that asked.

Re: How mad should I be, if at all?
Appears to be a good solid truck. At the end of the day, all that matters is that you are happy with it (and it sounds like you are). It's my understanding from many years ago that TH400 was developed to handle the increased torque of a BBC, and not because of any TH350 issues. My K20 has a TH350, and I have never once thought gee, I sure wish it had a TH400.

Re: How mad should I be, if at all?
I would be upset. However, I would be more upset with myself. In an honest and and truthful world you could expect to trust anything a seller told you, unfortunately in Our world you cannot. Now, with that said--It could have been an honest mistake. Ive found that most guys cant tell the difference most of the time.
Always remember an old adage------Let the buyer beware!!! |
Re: How mad should I be, if at all?
My '72 k2500 spent it's first life being used to tow a 5th wheel camper over the Sierra Nevadas and into the desert. It has an aux. cooler and a trans temp gauge, which shows the owner took his towing seriously. I don't know what his experiences were, but I have owned it since '01, work it hard, and it pulls strong and shifts tight. I like the ratios better in a TH350 also. You and that truck will be just fine.

Re: How mad should I be, if at all?
I would think it was most likely an honest mistake . A lot of people mix up stuff like that . Remember too that even though the TH400 was the big brother trans , the TH350 has it's own bragging rights over the TH400 in some other ways . I would be happy with the TH350 .

Re: How mad should I be, if at all?
I was under the belief that the TH350 was the only automatic available for the 4 X 4 trucks. I know they could be swapped in.

Re: How mad should I be, if at all?
Just FYI for newer trucks.
The 1986, K30 SRW diesel came with turbo 400. CUCV diesel K5 blazers also has turbo 400. Les |
Re: How mad should I be, if at all?
The turbo 400's mentioned above, also came with heavy duty cases. Info in case looking to swap one in.

Re: How mad should I be, if at all?
Yes the TH350 t-case(NP205) will not bolt up to a TH400. The TH400 case has a larger input bearing and the case is machined larger for it and a different input shaft.
