You realize that silicon pad is one of the things listed in your link?......

Please go re-read my post. Pay close attention to the part where I say:

"Look for the "Vibration-Damping Sandwich Mounts"

The trolling here by some is tiresome and borders on juvenile.

Re: 5.3 into 72

When i did my 5.3 install 5 years ago i went with painless wiring and paid a little more for 5 additional feet. Drilled a 1" hole low in firewall above the hump. Once inside i laid down sticky ice and water guard (roofing product) then laid the wires flat and spread out and topped it with one more layer of ice and water guard. When it got under the seat i took it back to being round and swept it behind the driver and used the stock truck pcm mount and used small square tubing to make a framework. My diagnostic plug, added fuse/relay box and check engine light are behind the seat. Can't tell the wires are under the carpet.

Re: 5.3 into 72

Just my personal take, but I'm always hesitant to put critical wires in areas where they may be subject to impact. Under the carpet they're shielded, but overtime they'll still experience wear and tear, especially if they're spread out. My plan is to locate it either behind the dash somewhere, or to build a center console and locate the ECM inside of that in front of where a floor-shifter would go.

I would also avoid putting them on the underside of the cab, mainly because anything that COULD come in contact there (which would be unlikely) would be doing so at speed.

I plan on using bulkhead connectors to go from the cab to the engine bay. Will require more planning in wiring, but should make for a cleaner install in the end.

I received my showstopper harness from bill at bp automotive today. The harness came out beautiful. I got the harness ran from the cab into the engine compartment and hooked up to all the appropriate sensors. I still have the hard wiring to do and placing the ecm, tcm and fuse block. So far I am more than impressed with the harness. I will post pictures when I get the chance. Friday I hope to have the front end back on the truck and my hard wiring complete.

Got a few things going today. I got my fuse block and ecm in their places. I didn't have enough harness to get them exactly where I wanted, but it was close. They will both be under the seat. Changing fuses will be a pain, but when I laid them out it seemed to be the only feasible way. I also removed parts of the original harness not needed such as the voltage regulator. I put everything in wires looms. I'm trying to get everything as clean as possible. I can't afford to build a show truck but I'm working with what I have.

Can anyone tell me how to setup the wiring to my brake switch? Iirc correctly the harness has a blue wire and a blue and white wire.

Re: 5.3 into 72

The stock switches are normally open until the brake is depressed and then the switch is closed sending 12VDC to the tail lights Via the steering column turn signals

Re: 5.3 into 72

I should clarify what I meant on the brake switch. I am referring to the bp harness hooking into my brake switch for the torque converter lockup. There are two wires in the bp harness.

You need one of the brake switches with the 2 poles on it, one is for the brake lights and the other is for the harness/transmission - http://shop.bp-automotive.com/Electr...ch-TCC-001.htm

I just bought one from Amazon and put it in, its an ACDelco D862C, it worked great with the BP harness.

Thanks, got the part in order now. The radiator will be in Tuesday. Hopefully I can have it up by the end of next week.

Are the wires labeled? On a Gen4 engine, its usually one wire and is tapped into the wire on the brake switch that is hot when the brake pedal is depresses, the opposite of the older Gen 3 engines that use the dual contact switch.

Finally got her running today! Still have to rap up the permanent fuel pump wiring, mounting the electric fans, routing the headlight wiring, mounting the bed and doing the fuel fill. I'd like to get the exhaust done this weekend.

Re: 5.3 into 72

I have a vicious vacuum leak on my intake manifold. I found the culprit, I put some electrical tape over it just to stop it and that created a loud whistle. I am not sure what the piece on the manifold was or if it can be replaced. Some advise would be greatly appreciated.

There was a little nub there for a vacuum nose, I used it for my A/C vacuum attachment on my 78.
If you do not need a sorce for vacuum why can't you just plug it, maybe a screw with silicone on it

Jess here is what mine looks like..its blocked from factory with that plastic stirrup thingy..like said before you might could tap it and put in a plug or barb fitting..but that plug don't look like it comes out but I don't know about that.

Re: 5.3 into 72

Thanks guys. I think I'll attempt to plug it today and see what happens. When I covered it yesterday it created a whistle. It could've been leaking a small amount of air to cause that though. We shall see

Re: 5.3 into 72

You could always place a vacuum gauge on that fitting

Starting to look like a truck again. I'm giving it a rest for the weekend. Doing a marriage retreat with the family. I'll be back at it Monday. Have to wrap up the details.
