Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
Finally got the cab and bedsides out of my yard. It was looking pretty trashy there for a while!

My priority is to get my basement completed and rented out. it will likely be a winter project after the garage gets heated. #****beingahomeowner |

Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
I'm running those control arms but with steel shafts, I like them so far. just gotta make sure you grease em every once in a while.
I'm a big fan of finished interiors and engine bays in patina trucks. Its shows a nice contrast. leaving the interior and bays, frames etc undone just shows a little carelessness IMO. But time and money def aren't on everyone's side so you gotta do what you gotta do. I def like that grey interior, and with the flat look, that will actually make it a nicer drive on a sunny day. all the gloss and chrome etc gets right in your eyes. |
Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
Cool looks like you have a nice start to a sweet truck!!!!

Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)

Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
I luckily stumbled across some more information on the I recently bought. It is 100% the supercharger I bought.
Magnuson MP112 For Sale It's a Magnuson MP112 that came off a 05 Cadillac CTS-V. The original owner had a new transfer shaft spun and billet spacer made to fit truck accessories. With the new transfer shaft length and spacer it "should" fit pretty much any setup with the cathedral port heads. It has 35 lb injectors and over $1000 of professional port work completed. |
Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
Had a pretty productive day yesterday. I moved all the trucks around so I'll have access to them over winter. I wanted to get them moved before it started to snow.
The plan is to get the 5 window cab removed from the chassis this coming weekend and on to the cab dolly so I can roll it into the garage. I'd like to get the 3/4 ton chassis out of my yard as soon as I can once thats done. I bought some 5000lbs wheel dollies from Princess Auto and they actually worked way better than I had expected. Money well spent IMO. The night before I moved the trucks around I started removing the fenders from the 49' so it'd be ready for the cab to be pulled. After it took me an hour in the ill lit tent to get one fender off I called it quits. http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psu3ln8f9s.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...pstpj9dvxl.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...pspdwuvnnu.jpg It'll be much easier now that its on my driveway under the flood light. First I pushed the 51 out from behind my garage and into the alley way. http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...pstmlz48ty.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psry8ptimu.jpg Then I hooked up a strap to the back of my S10 to the 49 and pulled it from the tent. http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...pshatf2gzn.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...pslmobr0cu.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psr4cycbt2.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psvq9uxwhg.jpg |

Little cab lift rig I threw together.
http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psapdzqrme.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psamphddmv.jpg Now the 3/4 ton frame waits to be purchased. I hope I can at least sell the engine out of it. http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psnbcslzsa.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psifbsmdki.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psh1fddryq.jpg This needs to be on the ground... http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psyihjnzhc.jpg |
Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
nice things are coming together, moving trucks around and getting organized is a good feeling, almost as good as getting new parts in!

Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
It's a nice feeling to get stuff all moved around for the next step. Even more important when snow is coming. Looks good!!

Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
I'm not much for "patina" trucks and definitely not anything with the word "rat" associated with it but I see you have a lot of enthusiasm and are making the effort to use quality suspension parts, excellent.
I LOVE those interior pictures you posted. Is that just flat black? Or gloss black with a flattening agent added? It looks great. If I ever WOULD do a patina truck the frame and mechanical parts etc would be super clean, fresh black whether gloss or semi gloss and based on those interior pix I'd do that too. Then just polish up the exterior to give it the look of a truck that had been "loved" to the point of polishng through the paint to the primer or even bare metal. Just my opinion but patina is polished over the decades, NOT rusted by neglect. Bestof luck with your build. |

Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
I'm sad to see that Advanced Design Engineering has gone out of business after an accident. Looks like the company is up for sale, which is unfortunate.
I planned to purchase their engine mounts, steering kit, and transmission crossmember and build the rest. Looks like I'm out of luck now. Does anyone know of anyone selling any of these ADE parts? |
Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
Here's who I am planning on buying from.

Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
I had a pretty productive day today.
I pulled the old 235 6Cyl out of the 3/4 ton chassis and sold it along with the 4spd and my 3 on the tree trans. http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psntlowzan.jpg Later this evening I spent all the money I made today on some C5 Corvette callipers and a set of decent rear fenders for the 49' C5 calipers http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psc6pyg9df.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...pses2qunsd.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...pslfu35csq.jpg Fenders: http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...pskajg5ugu.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psmjxoduf1.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psvtfshs8s.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps2jd7mgdy.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psehrihwft.jpg :metal: |
Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)

Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
your airbar looks to have fared about as well as mine haha. why did ART use such wimpy powdercoat on these?
I had another used one for my last truck and ended up making everything new except the diff mount. I am thinking this one will go down that same slope. Luckily, if you need new bushings (you need new bushings by the way, those rubber ones ride great but are not forever parts) they are only about $150 bucks TOTAL from ART (you wont need the bumpstops, I was making special snubbers for the tilt bed and long soft ones for the notch) http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...pswkyk3tzc.png that is the threaded parts too, so you can chase the bars with a tap or I just made new bars. I have the bar stock dims if you need them. |
Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
Your rear fenders are like mine. I guess it's the "scratched by a barbed-wire fence" look.
That patina is hard to duplicate. I like it. |
Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
This will be fun to watch. Keep it up.
