Got pretty far today.
Finally set the grille in place. Had to drill holes for the '60 grille to fit on a later support. Vacuumed/scraped drivers floor. Covered it in some rustoleum undercoating until floorpans can be done. Rebuilt rear brakes, new wheel cylinders and shoes. Sealed rear diff (waiting on the 24 hour cure to fill it) Turns out I've got the Eaton HO series rear end with 3.90s More to come! I'm on a roll with this thing. |

Just a quick update. I've been swamped with Christmas and my oldest sons birthday.
Most of the lights are wired and routed including the tail lights. I noticed the holes in the backing plate in an earlier shot, but seeing them in detail, along with the holes in the drums, makes me REALLY wonder about that!
Cooling the brakes helps eliminate brake-fade, especially with drums. But the thing about yours is that they are VERY neatly done. The holes in the backing plate are neatly laid out and spaced, while the holes in the drum face are also neatly spaced and in a difficult spot to drill. They didn't do those with a hand drill with the parts still on the truck. When you decide to unload them, let me know... I don't know that I'd use them, but I'd love to have them anyway! There are three things about your truck that are very interesting: It looks like it has a sway bar up front: can you take a picture of it? The power booster is a later model--the '60-'62 trucks had a funky two-chamber master for manual shift trucks, and putting a modern brake booster on without an adapter plate isn't just a simple bolt-on job. The trans tunnel hump is a high hump, which usually came with the 4-spd granny-gear transmissions, but it doesn't have a shifter hole in the middle of it. I also noticed that it has side motor mounts--those aren't usually on '60-'62 trucks either. And I laughed when your son said he wanted to go camping in it--My son and I camped several times in ours! -Brad |

That's correct. No springs up front.
I plan on keeping the drums on it for now. I'm sure we can work something out when the time comes to move them on. I know you're kind of the parts guy do you happen to have the swing window and track for the drivers side? My spring is rusted gone and my window is blown out. |

I thought about doing something to shine up my light buckets but after a good polish they shined up with no issues. I rewired the burb so my lights are actually pretty bright. Thanks for the idea though.
Brad. I'd appreciate that. There's supposedly a secret yard near me that has tons of old chevys... I'll have to try to get a hold of the guy again. |

So I got out tonight to bleed the brakes finally after the rebuild. Unfortunately I have a stoppage somewhere to the rear lines. I'm assuming its at the split. I'll probably trouble shoot that tomorrow. It was a little too cold out tonight and my wife's little toesies were getting cold. (she pumped the brakes, glad to have her along anyways!!)

Yeah, that tab was added...
Can you see if there are any numbers or markings on that sway bar? It looks like a label on it. The vented drums and backing plates look like a home-done deal, but fairly well laid out. Well its been a few months on the updates. Nothing has changed on the Burb. I did have the rambler for 3 weeks but title issues caused the deal to fall through.
Now I've had some time to contemplate it and I will be putting a 5.3 LS into the burb. The search has begun for a donor. Stay tuned!! |

Geez guys. It feels like its been forever since I last posted.
I found an LS swap for the Suburban right under my nose. I bought my brother in laws 2004 Yukon that he had just wrecked. I have since pulled the engine, trans, radiator, electric fans, and seats from the Yukon. The motor has been taken down to a long block. (not building up right now just re sealing.) I've also begun to start ordering a good bit of parts. I'll try to get on tomorrow to upload pictures. Here's a list of what I've ordered so far: LS Swap motor mounts Knock sensors Top end gasket and ring kit Headers 25 Gallon Blazer fuel tank Corvette Regulator/filter Walbro 255 Fuel pump I've also started to strip the stock harness down to make the adjustments to run the LS in the Burb. |

Looking Good Andrew..Another Great Burb saved...Are you going with fuel tank, with internal pump. Since you have and X frame, rear is wider than 63-66 trucks. I used a 93 Caprice ( Wagon )..22 gallon poly tank. Just an option don't know if the in tank fuel pump has enough pressure for later model LS motor....Ed
