Weird, then there must be a separate oil pressure light in most cars. I presumed low oil pressure would trigger a Check Engine, being a fairly serious condition and all...

Depends on the year of the motor. A lot of the newer engines (Gen IVs) use the oil pressure in some calculations in the ECM, so it is required.

That's the opposite of most of the previous responses - I'm good because I'll have both, separate senders. The ECM will still get its oil pressure reading.

Do you know what kind of thing it uses it for? Mine's an E67 LS3 eRod.

I stand corrected, at least partially, :lol:. If you are running the DOD/AFM or VVT, the computer will need the oil pressure signal. IF not, you will be fine, although I believe there will be some engine parameters that that you won't be able to datalog without this signal.
