Aaaand we made it home in one piece! This thing is really bad now that I had a good chance to look at it. Engine is stuck far as I can tell, need to see if I can give it a good yank with something, probably going to put some oil in the cylinders tomorrow. Rolls good and steers so that's a plus. The guy had 4 layers of that original style rubber mat on the floors to cover the rot holes.
AND I found out it is actually a C20 dropped onto a K20 frame! the VIN tag on the cab starts with 2C25********* and the hump in the floor was not spot welded by the firewall. It was a low hump floor, 3 on the tree, and someone flame cut a high hump cover and dropped it over. Here's a bunch of pictures for now, working on a video for today and tomorrows events... Wow, not much left of that cab. Interested to see what you end up doing.

Re: Most rotted '62 K20?
That is the worst roof I have ever seen, yet I'm still jealous. Love your tow rig also.

Yesterday I as able to get everything stripped down to frame, drive train, and engine. Spent a lot of time with the smoke wrench and saws-all. I didn't get much for parts off of it, but there are some miscellaneous things I can sell. Pulled the plugs from the engine and all but one cylinder have rust. Nothing too heavy, mostly from moisture. Poured some ATF down them so we'll see what happens in a couple days.
Here's the disassembly video- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9EJt-ONKBU Anyone know how to ID this engine since the ID tag in the truck isn't correct? Block numbers below... Attachment 1564509 Attachment 1564510 Attachment 1564511 Attachment 1564512 Attachment 1564513 |

Man oh man that thing was ruff, but I see you didn't waist any time tearing that thing down..prolly wouldn't have been that bad inside if the glass was still in it...she came from the earth and let her return to the earth...well atleast you'll have a good frame and hopefully running gear...are you going to use this frame for your truck or have you gotten your other frame back...

I'll probably do what I can to the engine on this one and then sell it. Any ideas what the whole thing is worth as is? |
Re: Most rotted '62 K20?
What rear axle is under it?
Any chance the front axle is a posi? That'd help resale. Posted via Mobile Device |

Not sure of the rear axle Brad. Still have to delve into that.
Made some headway over the past 2 days. Got the engine unstuck, transmission shifter freed up and the head pulled off the engine. There was 3 stuck exhaust valves that lead to that. Turns out it was a good idea though since the buildup of crust in the ports and valve seats wasn't good. Still have to power wash the head and lap the seats. Unfortunately I did break an exhaust valve removing it from the head. I was tapping it out by the stem and the head snapped off. You can see that is has been broken about 3/4 of the way through for some time. Anyone have a spare used exhaust valve hanging around for a 261 straight 6?? Would rather not have to buy a new one in if possible.... Attachment 1565512 Attachment 1565513 Attachment 1565514 Attachment 1565515 Attachment 1565516 |

Re: Most rotted '62 K20?
Sweet! Glad you got that 261 up and running, they are fun little engines. The truck is now almost like a full sized go kart, throw a rollbar, seat, gas tank and proper clutch and you're ready to go muddin!

Around 7:30 in your video when you first get it running and it's sitting still the driveshaft out of the trans is spinning. I'm assuming it's the divorced shaft between the trans and tcase, just wondering how it was turning when you weren't moving unless the tcase was in neutral.
