Will the factory exhaust manifolds work with the vortec. And does it have drilled dipstick holes on both sides? ?

Yes, and i'll have to look..
..
1st yes. I'd port match the exhaust manifold to the vortec head ports..

2nd.. I'm almost sure it's on the side all late 70's up are..
I'll look at my engine it's on the stand.. tomorrow..

My daughter upped my spending limit to $4000, with that I'll need to include a dual exhaust. I did my exhaust for around $300. If I do a similar exhaust that will leave me $3700 but I'll need to get everything with it, intake, carb, waterpump, etc. any suggestions? She wants it to be strong and sound mean.

The L31 Vortec is still your best bet.

I looked one up and from what I read to use in in a non computer controlled truck I would need to replace the cam. Unless I'm reading it wrong?

Maybe I'm looking at the wrong engine?

You don't need to replace the cam. I'm replacing mine because the block I have happens to be drilled for a mechanical fuel pump, but most of them aren't. That just means you need to run an electric fuel pump (and probably a pressure regulator).

The stock cam will make plenty of torque and horsepower with a carburetor (I like Quadrajets) and HEI ingition. I'm running rams horns (2 1/2 inch Dorman) exhaust manifolds on mine because I got tired of messing with the headers.

Truckster is correct, you won't have to replace the cam. There are two part numbers for basically the same engine. The one you show is the 4 bolt main, The other is a 2 bolt and ends with a "2" I believe. Either will work just fine, so shop for the best price. Check Amazon as well.

Do you know if the block has the clutch lever mount for a four speed? Been trying to get through to summits tech support all morning but it's been busy. Also wondering if I'll have any issues with the flywheel and if it takes a different starter than a regular 350? Will the ram horn exhaust manifolds from the 307 fit? Thanks!

She ended up buying a 260 hp 350 from Pace Performance, it came with an Edelbrock intake, Holly Carb, distributor, plugs and wires all installed. Even came with the oil and break in oil in the pan. They even primed it. Also came with a mini starter and flex plate. We put on a dual exhaust and a pair of flowmaster 40's. She spent two days scrubbing 48 years of goo out of the engine bay then used a Scotchbrite pad to rough up the surfaces. I painted the engine bay then dropped the engine in. We picked up the wrong fan, ended up being a reverse rotation so disregard the fan in the pics! That sucker runs great! Tons of power and it does great burnouts! She's getting new tires and rims do once we got the engine broke in we burned off some tread! We also picked up a power disc brake kit to replace the manual drum brakes up front. Haven't got that installed yet. I put in some three point belts since it came without want my grandkids safe when they cruise with their mom! Once we finish all the mechanicals I'm going to repaint the body. It's been a fun project. Even made her a sign to hang in her garage so it's an official service center! I'll post some video of her first drive once it finishes uploading to Photobucket. It sounds really good!

Don't look at the exhaust tips! We cut those later and put on some stainless tips.

We are pretty happy with the one we got, came with everything, intake, carb, dist, plugs and wires installed, starter and flex plate (we will use the flex plate when we instal the new TH350 in a few months) all for around $2400 delivered.

Looks great and I am seriously considering that same engine. Can you share the link where you got it for $2400? Thanks!
