Re: 1972 Medium Olive SWB Driver Build-“Chester”
Yeah it turned out and held up better than I expected. I do have the old seat but a buddy of mine is suppose to pick it up this weekend. I thought about using that one but again this is way down the line and could use the garage space. Goal for this truck is drive and keep at the '67 project. But I keep finding cool things I want for it.
I'm afraid I'm going to talk myself into new tires/wheels for it this summer. I'm having a hard time finding good sizes at a decent price for 18" tires and mine are about ready for replacements. |

Had a good night out in the garage and today a buddy came and helped out for most of the day. Decided to go ahead and clean up and install a 4-core radiator I’ve had in the garage for a while.
Today was lower the truck day. Overall it turned out pretty good but already think I want to go lower. Up front I installed CPP 2.5” modular spindles and cut one full coil off the spring. While the front end was apart we installed new Moog upper and lower ball joints. Out back we just installed a set of CPP drop springs. I bought them used at a swap meet for $40 and was told they were 3”. Before and after measuring show 4”. I left the drop blocks out since the truck sits 1/2” higher in the back. I’m thinking now I might do my drop blocks and get the 2” front drop springs from CPP to get it down a little more. Attachment 1780038 |

Huge score today! Instead of painting my primered hood I decided to start looking for a nice patina medium olive hood. Well I’ve searched, sent texts and looked at several over the last couple of weeks. My buddy sent me a pic today from a junkyard about 30 min south of here. He then calls me to say its a nice GMC hood for $100. I cleaned out the bed of my truck, left work early and headed south. Went back to the very back, almost got attacked by some raccoons and carried it about a 1/2 mile through a maze of junk cars back to the truck. Paid the man, strapped it down and took it home to clean up. I’m beyond stoked. Just wish I had a buddy close by that’s available to put it on the truck. It’s going to be the perfect addition for the look of this truck. Also secured a med olive radio delete cowl panel.

Nice find!!!

Re: 1972 Medium Olive SWB Driver Build-“Chester”
Very nice. You earned that one fighting off the wildlife and carrying it that far. Lucky your buddy spotted it back there.

Re: 1972 Medium Olive SWB Driver Build-“Chester”
That was a great find. I love it when you get that lucky although it usually doesn't happen to me.

Re: 1972 Medium Olive SWB Driver Build-“Chester”
Haha, awesome! Now you'll have a good story to tell when someone asks about the GMC hood and the Chevy tailgate.

Been doing a little here and there with no real progress to brag about. Still waiting on a buddy to show up to help me GE the distributor and carb setup along with installing the new hood.
In the meantime I’ve been picking up remaining odds and ends along with cleaning up some of the wiring mess. I removed the AC harness along with the factory regulator wires since my truck had a one wire alternator. Another thing I’ve been slow with is the stereo install. 4-ga Power wire is ran in the cab, 4” speakers installed in the factory dash location and 6.75” components mounted in RetroSound Kickpanels. Speakers are Rockford Fosgate Punch and I did have to use a Metra .5” spacer for it to fit right. I also lined the kickpanel and plastic pod with DynaMat. Next up is amp and Bluetooth receiver. To round out the system I’m using 1-2 Rockford 8” powered slim subwoofer(s). It should rock out pretty good. Attachment 1786265 |

Well what was suppose to be a weekend dedicated to the truck turned into a few hours today. I did manage to get the new intake and accessories on. Ordered a copper line kit for my oil pressure gauge and it didn’t come with the adapter fitting for the block. Grrrr.
Getting closer. Attachment 1788420 |
Re: 1972 Medium Olive SWB Driver Build-“Chester”
What are you doing about the bright light switch with those speaker pods?

I can't put my dimmer on a toggle. The floor switch is the single greatest invention that went away! |

She’s pretty roadworthy other than no taillights. Lol. Not sure if that’ll get tackled tonight or in the morning.

Took the truck to get doughnuts this morning. Overall it went well. All the gauges work other than the oil pressure which I haven’t ran the line and apparently I forgot to hookup the speedo. Lol. Truck ran good and cool.

Re: 1972 Medium Olive SWB Driver Build-“Chester”
Keep forgetting to update this thread. Truck is on the road and doing good. Had some issues with the truck running right. First it would idle real high and diesel real bad when I shut it off. Retarded the timing and it helped but had no power. Talked an old drag racer buddy into coming over and helping out and had her fixed in about an hour. Ignorant me didn't think that by not hooking up the electric choke would cause any issues. Come to find out without it hooked up it never fully turns off. Ran a wire and truck immediately ran better. Advanced the timing and now its running like a champ.
Finished up the stereo last week and it turned out decent. Running (2) Rockford Fosgate Punch 4" in the dash, 6.75" components in Retrosound kickpanel enclosures, Prime 4-channel amp and a RF 8" powered sub under the passenger seat. Overall it sounds pretty good. The dash speakers are almost useless to the point I may take them out and replace the amp with a higher-quality 2-channel. Adding a second sub is another option. Source is an Exile Audio Bluetooth receiver for my phone. I'm still sorting out the suspension but probably going to install my drop blocks in the back and go from there. The front springs have settled pretty good but still debating on just getting CPP 2" front drop springs. Here's a few pics to get caught up First day I drove it to work a few weeks ago https://farm1.staticflickr.com/845/4...e58ed6f5_z.jpg Installed new mirrors https://farm1.staticflickr.com/923/4...64e4078e_z.jpg Stereo installation https://farm1.staticflickr.com/842/4...ef2eb6ba_z.jpg |
Re: 1972 Medium Olive SWB Driver Build-“Chester”
So last weekend was the Southeastern Truck Nationals in TN. I've gone just about every year for the last 4 years but this time I got to bring a truck. A much better experience. I heard the count was 504 trucks and it was an amazing show. Bryan has really grown this into something big.
Wasn't ready to drive it that far so I trailered it. Having A/C was a plus! https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1764/...84fbd4b2_z.jpg Truck unloaded in the hotel parking lot https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1807/...a637bbc5_z.jpg Met up with the C10 Club Kentucky guys. Great group of guys that appear to have accepted a "hoosier" since Indiana doesn't really have a C10 Club. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/915/4...777f4936_z.jpg Set up and relaxing https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1768/...dde4065b_z.jpg https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1808/...f52184ba_z.jpg |
