Re: 55 210 Remodel.
This is how I added extra strength and tied the clip to the original frame. I also added more bracing for the c-notch for the rack.
I will grind smooth the rosette welds on the side. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...de858b50_o.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...36fbb33c_o.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...b6d71cd2_o.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...03927b1b_o.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...19973522_o.jpg |

Re: 55 210 Remodel.
I narrowed and rebuild my Ford 9 inch. I will installed Torino axle ends and a Willwood brakes.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...832e48fb_c.jpg This is one of the jigs I used to measure how much to cut. It gives you the centerline and the axle length once the rearend is narrowed. In this pic I marked my cuts. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...4d5c0015_c.jpg The cuts are made, its time to weld on the new axle ends. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...a483d6fe_c.jpg Using this jig allows me to weld on the axle ends square. The axle ends come beveled and I also beveled the axle tubes for maximum penetration. I also took advantage of mocking up the rearend while it had no weight. This allowed me to move it with ease and weld all the 4 link mounts. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...0a4bc2b2_c.jpg Ready for paint https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...0fd4ab30_c.jpg Cut to fit axles ready for installation. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...69d1ecbf_c.jpg Once painted I installed a new 3rd member. Its Posi with 3.70 gears. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...56ecbae8_c.jpg Rearend is complete and ready to install in the car. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...7a2014ea_c.jpg |

Looks great bam.!!!
I like that jig |
Re: 55 210 Remodel.
Hey Bam - What axle centering jig is that? I just rented one from a shop but contemplated owning one.

Hotrod1, both of my jigs are from ICT Bullet, one is for the narrowing the axle tubes (rearend) and the other is for the axles themselves. The one for the rearend does not come with the bearings and bar I've had that for years. |
Re: 55 210 Remodel.
Man, I wish I lived near someone like you so that I could learn how to do more intricate stuff like what you are doing. Nice job :)

Re: 55 210 Remodel.
I did not plan to do another frame off but I could not help myself. I just seen a lot of things I wanted to change. I decided to install a Summit Racing Frame Bracing Kit for Trifive Chevys.

Re: 55 210 Remodel.
Of all the myriad cars/trucks I've owned, I've missed my '55 the most. I ran into really bad financial times while the car was blown apart (and the paint and body shop went belly-up), and had nowhere to store it, so ended up having to sell it....well, give it away basically....
Anyway, I love your build Bam, and I'll be watching like a hawk. |
