Re: 65 C10 Family Connection
I'm glad you're saving it and looking forward to see what you do to it.
I'm sure the old man is tickled! |

Found Dads way of repairing a hole in the muffler. A large soup can and a hose clamp.

Re: 65 C10 Family Connection
This is a cool project. With all of this truck's family history, it definitely deserves to be back on the road.

Re: 65 C10 Family Connection
Love the soup can fix. Use what you got right? I am still amazed at the condition of the truck after sitting all those years. From what I can see, the cab looks in very good shape. Is it as good underneath? Great project.

The ol truck does have rusty areas in the cab. I agree it does look really good until you start digging in to it.
The roof and hood have very little paint left. The roof has no bubbles or perforations. The hood had a few in the very lower seam at the front. |

After ALOT of elbow grease the front cross member is looking pretty good.

Re: 65 C10 Family Connection
Yup, I think your truck will handle much better than stock once you get it all back together :burnout:

Re: 65 C10 Family Connection
Whoa...that did clean up nice! What's the details? Sorry if I overlooked them in previous posts.

Met a forum member, Lostmy65, that had a donor cab available for a few pieces to be recycled into our truck.
Thank you 65! |

Started cleaning up the rear of the frame. The trailing arms were very rusty from being on/in the ground. Fortunately the suspension kept the frame and body from being in contact with the dirt.

More cleanup and rivet removal for the different crossmembers. Removing rivets is not one of the funner jobs.

I have decided that the Chevy is too far gone to mess with. I am now going to focus my energy on stepping up the Gator with the 6.2 and 8 speed.
Has anyone seen a bolt on kit for this? JCWhitney maybe? |

This combo was from a Silverado. The stock oil pan could have been made to work with some compromises, like lifting the engine on taller motor mounts, but it is also pretty deep. This pan is modeled after the Camaro pan.
With the adapters that take the stock Chevy small block mounts on the truck motor you need to loose the vacuum pump. Also the vacuum pump location is going to be the new mount for the power steering pump. |
