Made some more good progress tonight. Got both driveshafts removed, pulled the shocks off, as well as the parking brake cables. Also got the engine/trans/t-case all in one shot. Need to do a little more pressure washing now that the drivetrain is out of the way, and measure/record axle centerlines since the axles/springs will be coming off next, and I will need a reference for placement of the 2wd suspension. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...812_233801.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...812_234641.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...812_235912.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...812_235931.jpg |
Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
Looks like the only thing you need to keep for this build is the frame rails.

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
Coming along nicely. what are dim's of your shop? I like the pole barn design. I notice you dont have any lights up, why is that? must be hard to work with flood lights.

Basically. I am planning to use the 4x4 stuff to convert the blue C-10 to a K-10. |

It's a work in progress...need to finish wiring it, insulating it, sheeting the ceiling and walls, painting the interior. There's not enough hours in the day. I do the bulk of my fabrication work in the house garage for now, which is insulated, drywalled, heated, and wired for 240 for the mig, tig, and plasma. Not to mention it has lights ;) |

Well after running 3 tanks of fuel through my pressure washer over the past few days, here's what we've got.

How much for the Holley equipt Mr. McGoo car? Is that a tribute or #s matching car?
|
Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
Numbers matching...just as it came from the factory, but not for long. I'm a hot rodder, not a waxer....trying to impart that into my daughter as well :)

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
Well, axles and steering are off of it, and it's moved over to the house garage for some cutting/grinding/fabrication. Let the games begin.

Got a bunch of parts from Porterbuilt last week. Now I need to find some time to finish grinding rivets from the rear spring hangers so I can install these goodies :metal: Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
Took advantage of the cool, rainy night to tackle some unsavory work that I've been avoiding on the blazer.
http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...60115312_n.jpg Got all the old brackets/spring hangers/bump stops/etc cut off the frame, and started mocking up the rear suspension. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...907_231203.jpg |
Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
Looks good! Wish someone had a bolt-in solution back when I converted mine. What's the plan for upper spring mounts?

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
I would feel bad rodding such an original truck too.
Oh wait that's what I am doing. Strike that. How fast was that pass on the vid? I have a 4wd I am converting to 2wd too (not like yours by any stretch) So I am also interested in the rear spring mounts. Or Bag? 4wd frame is more narrow in the rear right? |
Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
I am getting away from air-ride on this truck. I am going to be running coil-overs on all 4 corners. I'll show the rear coil-over mounts when I get to that point. Going for more of a handling aspect on this rig, rather than just being low.

Just got caught up on your build, this blazer is going to be awesome. I love tue porterbuilt parts. I know you will love the wheels and thanks again.

The vid was a 12.1 et pass if I remember correctly. I didn't get my fast pass on vid that night, which was an 11.95. Regardless if you go spring, or bags, you will need to either buy or fab a spring mount on the outside of the framerails, since as you mentioned, the frame rails are narrower at that point on the 4x4 frames. I am not going with coils, or bags, so my setup will be different than most. The coilover setup will be similar to a 4-link, in the way that they're mounted. |
Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
Took some measurements, drilled some holes, and got the trailing arm crossmember bolted in today. Used some PVC pipe to mock up the rear suspension without actually having to have the rear axle in.
http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps888a84a9.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps7c53b4f0.jpg Also clamped the fuel tank up to the frame to check the fit. It's sumped with a -10 fitting. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps9285a6f7.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps13ce1baa.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps12126ebc.jpg |

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
Well the wheels showed up...and since I don't yet have a rolling Blazer chassis, I decided to throw them on my blue C-10 and see how they look. I'm real happy :)

Called up Rob at NoLimit and ordered up their WideRide IFS setup for the front. Should be here by Friday...can't wait to have a rolling chassis again.

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
Didn't get anything done on the truck(s) this week, but I did get to work on wiring the shop, and putting up some lights. Kinda important with the days getting shorter and all...

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
Nice. That was a fast delivery. Gonna be cool to see this one come together. You planning on running stock inner fenders?

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
Yes, planning for stock inner fenders.
Pulled the main crossmember out of the box to take a peek. Gotta find some time to start measuring and drilling holes. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...005_160830.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...5_160849_1.jpg Also picked up a clean 68 Chevy front clip while up in WI this weekend. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...006_112202.jpg Posted via Mobile Device |

Got it on my desk at work to keep me motivated  http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...010_082526.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...010_082443.jpg |
Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
Since you are going coil overs and have plans for Big Hp are you doing anything more to the frame to increase its stiffness to get all you can out of those front and rear suspensions?
After drilling some holes in my frame(2wd conversion) I can tell they sure arent made out of the same material as later model GM trucks.... Nice build either way |
Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
Yes, I'm planning to box a few sections of the frame, as well as some additional stiffening. I'm also planning for a cage, to protect my family, as well as stiffen up an inherently flexy truck.

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build
Did some work the past couple nights. Got the front clip pulled off the blue truck, and the engine/trans pulled out. It's kinda bittersweet, seeing as I've been driving this truck for 16 years... :waah:
http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...018_223426.jpg But then sad turns to pumped when I stabbed the drivetrain between the framerails for mock-up. :metal: http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...018_223740.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...018_223646.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...018_223729.jpg Ordered up some steel last night to get a transmission crossmember made. Planning to get the front suspension put together this weekend...and maybe the rear axle underneath it if I'm feeling motivated. |
