LQ4 is the "low" compression 6.0. LQ9 is the high comp 6.0. LM7 and later the LY5 is the 5.3.

Re: ls turbo build

The 5.3 is.... a 323 in terms of CI if I'm correct but called a 325/327, the 5.7 is 347 and the 6.0 is 364 CI the 6.0 having the 4.00in bore is nice because they have really nice stock heads like the l92 head swap. As far as lq4/9s are only 6.0s and the lq9 if I'm correct has slightly thicker connecting rods and obviously pistons as well check my sig for the ls primer link it tells everything and one last thing I think the gen IV engines started in... 06? Using different rectangular port heads instead of cathedral which means not interchangeable and vvt and few other things making those heads cost possible a little more along with cam although vvt can be eliminated although some of this is already mentioned, TSP 427 6.0 stroker kit would be nice also :-p

Re: ls turbo build

everything looks great....but that pan seems a little deep. Mine is too deep and I don't think it hangs down as far as yours. are you sure you have room for it?

69trk 05-17-2012 05:38 AM

Re: ls turbo build

Not sure.... Guess i will find out... What pan did you end up going with?

68GMCCustom 05-17-2012 10:37 AM

Re: ls turbo build

the stock LY6 pan.

Custom 68 05-17-2012 03:24 PM

Re: ls turbo build

I swapped my pan to the stock camaro one that is what I would recommend.

OneOffStroker 05-24-2012 12:23 PM

Re: ls turbo build

I have the deep pan like you have, and it is almost the lowest point on my truck. My exhaust is about 1/2" lower. And with as much static drop as I have...I should be worried, but strangely I'm not. Time will tell.

Subscribed. My 6.0 came in yesterday so I will be watching to see the best way to boost a C10.

I was going to have a 4l80 built, but i couldn't bring myself to spending close to 4k for a trans to handle what i'm doing... I would have to drive it for a long time to save enough in fuel to have it pay for itself... I would love to have one tho!!!

Keep me posted on your ideas!!

I thought that i could do this for around 8to10k, but i'm not taking any shortcuts.... I'm looking around 17k for this conversion with painted firewall, holley efi, etc.etc... So, it's going to take me a year or longer to finish.... Need to get my wife to work more

Just received my freakshow converter, hughes flywheel with spacer and bolts, energy suspension motor mounts and trans mount. I should have it all bolted up together this weekend and stabbed in the truck.. I'll also have the driveshaft and lokar shifter installed and the hydraboost brakes done.... Then i'm ordering the holley dominator efi complete system, and the edelbrock proflo intake and injectors, rails etc.etc..... I'm getting excited:metal: Going to try to get this done before our new baby gets here in may....

How's the install coming?

69trk 11-12-2012 09:42 AM

Re: ls turbo build

Jegs sent the wrong flexplate.... I have to use the crank spacer (555-601010) and a FLAT tci flexplate (399753). They told me that the hughes flexplate (512-hp4004x) will work... But it's dished and won't allow the converter to pull up enough to bolt up to the flexplate... So if you install the spacer first then the TCI flexplate it will work....

Bummer. Hopefully they will get you the correct parts soon and you can finish the install.

Great progress thus far brother. Got the motor in but ran into a snag with the turbo fitment. As usual I will be keeping a close eye on yours.
