finally getting somewhere. all the control arms are rebuilt, now starting to reassemble. can't wait to get it back on the ground and see how it rides.

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)
The silver looks good on the suspension parts! So did you decide on white for the interior, or are you doing fawn? Saw your "oh c******st" add and it looks like you picked up some fawn armrests.

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)
thank you. yep, went with fawn. i like how it looks and it was the original color. i've found all the OEM fawn interior parts in pretty good shape except a center seat belt. even the buddy buckets match, although they have a few tears. so i'm pretty stoked about that.

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)
Glad you went with it, love the fawn interior. Really looking forward to seeing it come together.

so i was originally going to run some white painted 67 caps that i had, but i didn't like the look with the primer, and i didn't think i would like it once i get the truck painted black and all the stainless trim put on. i bought some 67 stainless caps, but there was too much red for me so i sold them (yes i'm picky). i was starting to think i would just go without caps when i got lucky this week and found a decent set of 68 stainless caps. i think this will work for me! what do you guys think? ignore the stance, i still have jack stands under there.

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)
I like it! Will look perfect once it's sitting on its own. I agree with you, gotta have the 68 paint scheme on the 67-68 caps if you've got a 68. Look forward to seeing more pics. Also the glovebox door looks really nice

getting pretty close to having the front suspension wrapped up. hoping to get it on the ground soon to see how it looks. suspension work takes a lot longer than i thought!!
i just need to get the tie rods & connecting rod bolted in, and replace a few brake lines. only two simple steps, but it seems like each step turns into 5 more small tasks... Attachment 1528238 |

well she's back on the ground. when i first bolted on the wheels i discovered the spindles were hitting the wheels. i've heard a lot of stories of control arms rubbing, but i haven't heard that about the spindles before. i bought some 5/16" spacers and trimed about an 1/8" off the spindles and it's all good. what do you think? it seems a tad low to me, but i think i just need to get used to it.

pulled the beast out today for some much needed shop cleaning. i'm not positive but i think i may be a bit too low in the front. it looks like if i turn going through any kind of dip the tires might rub the inner fender. the front drop is supposed to be around 4". it's a 2.5" spindle, and factory springs cut to the same length as a pair of front springs i was told was straight from the ECE 4/6 kit, which should have been 1.5" (i think). it's possible they are cut more than i thought, or they are a bit worn out. they looked really nice, but you never know. i was going for a 4/5, but i think i have more like a 5.5 front 5 rear...

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)
thanks guys! i've been busy with other things for the last few months, but should make some more progress soon.

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)
I'd drive it some to see the front end works. I'm not a fan of much lowering, yours looks just about right! If it has a small block in it now, that front end WILL be lower with the big six (396...:D)
Where did you get those hubcaps? |

I think the front is perfect if it doesn't rub, back is still an inch too high. Although if it came up an inch in the front is might look perfect as well. |

so i wrapped up my other project (vitamin c) so i'm getting back onto the 68.
finished installing the brake lines. welded on some brackets and bolted on new tabs since the 71-72 parts connect on the front of the crossmember. installed the sway bar and shocks. now i have to figure out this stance... the front was too low (see post 54). so i pulled the cut oem springs out and installed new bbc stock height front springs for a starting point (next step is installing the 396). i am liking the 5" drop in the rear, now i need to figure out how much front spring to cut. i'm thinking after i install the 396 and cut 1/2 to 3/4 of a coil i'll have a very slight rake, which would be perfect. until i change my mind again... :uhmk: Attachment 1564935 Attachment 1564936 Attachment 1564937 Attachment 1564938 Attachment 1564939 |

stole a photo from chewychevy67's build thread and tweaked it to represent what my truck would have looked like from the factory. i will definitely be going with black paint with a white grille and white tailgate letters and full trim. still undecided on the white roof, but it sure looks classy! i'm not doing any mods to this truck that can't easily be reversed so some day when i'm old and grumpy i can do a factory resto...

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)
I like that. I do like the white roof. It is sharp. I'll save that picture to my computer as well!!

alright so i finally have the stance i've been looking for. i had to cut a coil off the new bbc springs. the bottom coil i removed was 1", and the drop was just under 2", just as i had hoped (17"/9" control arm ratio). once i get the 396 in i think it will drop another 1/4" to 1/2" which will be perfect.

Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)
Hey man!! Finally another fellow turlockian :haha: we'll have to get the trucks together sometime, yours looks to be coming together very well. I remember fighting the front stance issues like crazy when I had my old 15x10's damn things would reak havoc on the inner fenders in dips

sounds good! you might have to come my direction though, i pulled the 305 last weekend to make room for the 396... :metal:
i've seen your truck around town, it's hard to miss. did you put some big chrome steelies on it? Attachment 1575050 |
Re: project "C10 Fever" (68 factory black 396 swb)
Yeah she gets around town quite a bit :haha: and yes I installed some billet 20x9's that I machined myself at my last job and added the factory caps from the full wheel covers to give it some extra design since the all plain was boring to look at lol.
