Re: 1966 C-10 build
I like what you're doing. I've seen other guys do the shock relocation like you did. On the rear setup, did you use stock length rear shocks? I saw one build where I believe they said they used stock length front shocks on the rear.
What spring drop did you use on the rear? |
Re: 1966 C-10 build
Hey Doug, Thanks. Im pretty simple and so is the truck. I did use the stock length shocks and the springs are 4 inch drop..

Re: 1966 C-10 build
Thanks John appreciate the kind words. Kind of embarrassed that my lil project pales in comparison to some of the projects others are working on or have completed. It is what it is and we will make the most of it and have fun no matter. Yours is looking great BTW... Congrats!

I understand about the parts issues you are having from some vendors...it irritates me to no end to spend good money with folks and have them act like they are doing you a favor. I do like the attachment you spoke about that goes on your pressure washer...do you happen to have a link for the one you use? |
Re: 1966 C-10 build
nice build and its coming along nicely …. =)
keep those update(s) coming …. |
Re: 1966 C-10 build
The parts places are what they are. I was just being a sensitive lil B. LOL You know one that wants good service....

Re: 1966 C-10 build
Some days are better than others like any project I guess. Nice to be able to share with all you on here as I know first hand watching others and keeping up to date with everyone elses builds keeps one motivated
Yesterday and today were those days we all look forward to.. Fired up the motor and with the new oil pan gasket and the trans pan gasket and shift selector seal it would appear as though we now have a dry garage floor... Unfortunately work will pull me away for a week or more. On my return the real fun starts. New wheels and tires and exhaust system. Like John said I am looking forward to some donuts.... Unlike John though I like the kind with sprinkles more than the rubber ones...LOL Quote:

Re: 1966 C-10 build
Actually I did find that keeping the hose on top of the attachment keeps the sand from getting water in there and messing things up. I picked up sand from Home depot. It is the medium sand that is cleaned and kiln dried. I was skeptical at first but within a minute I knew I was on to something with this little gadget. This thing stripped everything off the frame like it was nothing. After I blasted everything I washed it all down with just water out of the pressure washer. So nice to have everything stripped and clean. I then used a product called POR15 metal prep. It was unbelievable. washed it off and blew the area off with my blower to dry it. Came back a day later and everything was perfect. I cleaned it and painted it with rattle can.

Looks great....you have made great progress since you got it....moving much faster than I am!

Re: 1966 C-10 build
Feels like I have been in quick sand last couple months. But things are moving forward and we are getting close to having it back on its own wheels and under its own power.
Latest update: I bought a seat cover and figured it would be no big deal to put it on.....WRONG!!! Its now down at the local shop being reinstalled correctly.. SMH! Going to get the tires mounted tomorrow and hopefully the lug nuts will come in within a few days. Too Lazy to take pics today.. Quote:

Re: 1966 C-10 build
Very strange, I have asked others and they are seeing them. Could it be a re-fresh issue or trying to view on a mobile device? Not sure what else I can do on my end.. Sorry bout that.

Re: 1966 C-10 build
FWIW--I can see all the pictures...very strange some can't.
Quick question...did you paint your cab interior fawn or the silver fawn? If neither, what did you use? Thanks! |
Re: 1966 C-10 build
Well I just went back from the beginning and now it shows Photobucket and no pics....not sure why

Not a big deal here. I'm probably the only one on this forum that uses an 'old fashioned' desk top computer.....maybe that's why I can't see the pics.

Re: 1966 C-10 build
That's the pic right there.
I just did a search on EBAY and came up with a ton of options. clear center, red center, blue center, with or without turn indicators and on and on and on... Looks like around $40 dollars. for a set. |
Re: 1966 C-10 build
how much brighter are they than anything else? That is in my price range. Would love LED but don't want to break the bank.
|
Re: 1966 C-10 build
I saw some LED 7" and they were 250.00 ea. from Brothers...WAY out my price range

I saw some LED headlights on EBAY for $85 Just do a search Chevy 7" led headlights and a bunch come up. The tri bars are bright enough for me and match my ol skool theme.. I also did the headlight relay upgrade and that made a huge difference... |

I did a search and discovered that if you clear your internet browsers Cache it should fix your issue with the pictures.. I am using Microsoft edge. click on the three dots or lines in the upper right corner go to history and click it should say clear... Click on it and then it will have a clear cache takes a minute and Voila..... clean and clear Hope this helps ;) |
Re: 1966 C-10 build
Thanks for searching and the advise, I will give that a try. With that said, I did discover something by accident. If I view your build thread without logging in, I can see all of your pics just fine.

Re: 1966 C-10 build
What a week... This whole floor/ Rocker panel replacement is kicking my ass. So I started out by removing the fender and door on the passenger side of the truck. (The really bad side) The gaps were pretty bad all around but I figured its best to just go ahead and weld in some bracing to hold the cab together. I knew the door did not fit the opening perfectly or should I say "not even close" But I figured I couldn't do any worse than what I started with. The issues I'm having now is the sheetmetal I purchased to replace the rusted out pieces really doesn't fit and is more like a suggestion to fit. Now that I have the floor patched and have been working on the rocker I am seeing that the door gaps are just as bad as they were previously. Funny part is the door looks worse now that I have a straight rocker mocked up next to it. LOL Im thinking of just moving forward now and accepting the fact that if I want perfection I will need to take the entire cab off and start at square one.... I have spent the better part of 3 hours looking at pictures on here for door gap reference and wow they run from not bad to horrible. Guess I should be thankful that I have at least 3 sides straight.. BTW these replacement sheet metal parts should come with a notice explaining they just look like a factory part and will need major modifications to fit... RANT OVER>>>>>>> back to the grinder and welder.

Been there and done that......Im lucky that I was able to find some NOS Rockers and Doors that really fit pretty good. You do great work and Im sure you will get it looking like you want. |
Re: 1966 C-10 build
Thanks John, Been questioning the whole idea of trying to fix this rust bucket from the get go but then I see your build and others and realize we need to save these ol' trucks or they will be gone forever.
BTW I picked up the seat from the upholstery shop... They confirmed what I was thinking. The panel on the seat back was made too short. (reason for the small tear when I tried to be an upholsterer) Should have just had them make one from scratch. Lesson learned. most of these companies that supply us with restoration parts are made over seas and have very little quality control.... now I need to get these floors done so I can eventually sit on this thing. Just like when I had to have the motor rebuilt because the PO rigged it and broke a main bolt...luckily it didn't sling a rod. BUT the good news...or at least the way I justified it to myself is that it will be done right now and I wont have to worry about it and will be able to enjoy it for many miles and since Im 50.....itll last till Im gone. But as your correctly stated...they aint making any more of these and many folks get into these trucks and find the issues and just get rid of them...they put lipstick on a pig just to get it gone which is why you see a lot of them for sale by people who " have too many projects, don't have time ( or MONEY)" or those who just get discourage by what they see. Your truck is coming along great and what you have done looks awesome....just try not to get discouraged and think of the time you will enjoy when she is done....Ok Dr Phil lesson is over ,,,LOL Seriously you have a great truck with a few flaws that you are gonna get worked out. |
Re: 1966 C-10 build
Still working on rust removal and sheetmetal replacement. Getting there slowly but surely
