The truck is in the body shop, getting a lot done. Its getting all the cabs rust repaired. front fender re welded and aligned (fender bracket snapped due to bad cab mount). misc rust fixed on truck, painting and installing a tailgate, new windshield, new cab supports, cab mounts, and floor boards.

I bought silver carbon fiber look vinyl to redo my bezel. Cost about $6 for enough of the self adhesive to do the bezel and the passenger side to match. It fact I still have enough to do the door panels.

I removed my bumper guards and polished them as good as I could. Any ideas on how to fix the top carriage bolts spun hole and the bottom bolt that's snapped off? The bottom one i would think you could drill/mill out, but not sure what bolt will fit though such a tight space.

Wow....I can't believe you cut up a nice Silverado bezel just for the radio-the 88-91 Suburban bezels are easy to find and are already setup for the 1.5 DIN opening. Heck, I even have about 5 or 6 of them. The wrap does look good though-nice job.

Re: Schni's Blue 1983 K10

My bezel was already cut out for the single din radio buy the PO. I bought the vinyl on ebay (m2-racing is the name of the store). They have several styles and colors and different pre cut sizes. Putting it on was pretty easy but like all other interior work make sure you clean it real good before attaching the vinyl.

I used a xacto knife and a plastic scrapper. Since the surface is flat you shouldn't need a heat gun. After cleaning I laid the vinyl on the bezel and used the plastic scrapper to work it into shape and the carefully trimmed off the areas needed. There are multiple videos on Youtube that show how to cover items with the vinyl.

Yes I did. Now keep in mind that I was covering the original brushed aluminum look plastic. If you don't have that piece, the rough texture of the bare bezel will not finish out the same.

With that lift and the 35" tires, do you have plenty of clearance in the front?

I also got my new door locks in. Really easy, just take out a couple screws from door panel, remove window handle clip, unclip door panel from door. then remobe a tab keeping in the lock. the rest you can see from there

think he's talking bout the cab.
looks good. had an 81. ran it to 300K but the rust was too bad.

JacobSchni 09-18-2015 12:25 AM

Re: Schni's Blue 1983 K10

no the whole cab wasn't repaired. just rust spots. and the guy did a decent job. the paint looks good. but when you look really close, especially by the tailgate and bed sides you can tell the difference with the blue (very minor) and the silver is less "coarse" for the flakes. The guy didnt adjust the bumper when he put the bumper on, so the under side is chipped. there is a hear cleared over on the tailgate. a little overspray cleared over on edge of cab by the door seam. some overspray on the trim. a scratch and fingerprint in new paint by bottom corner of windsheild. and the seat belts dont work properly now. ones for sure broken. should have taken a much more in depth look before paying him. but they are very hidden and hard to find unless you start working on it. thats when i noticed. Any suggestions? I talked to him about the tailgates chipped paint, he said that he would fix it. what about the rest?

Re: Schni's Blue 1983 K10

lesson learned. don't go to a cheaper body shop. I'm surprised it came out like this after a very good restoration shop recommended me to him.

Re: Schni's Blue 1983 K10

Its been a while, i have done some smaller things lately. I recently started changing all the window gaskets, which will probably lead to me replacing my one door due to a big crease running down it. i have also bought a running 454 for $300 and 1 ton axles. This project is starting to become a bit more expensive that id like, but its all worth it.
