Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Thanks! I have all my rust work done where I can out parts back on the truck. Made me some room in my garage to get ready to take apart the bed.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Did a little more on the truck yesterday. I installed the cab mounts. It is true that the bolts do not work for a 62. I also had to split the lower rubber to get the nut and washer on. The first one took a little time before I figured it out. i also started the bed tear down. I had to drill out the fender bolts. If you don't have one of these drill doctors you are making your life harder when it come to drilling. It gives you the perfect edge for cutting.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Got a little further today. I completely disassembled my bed today. I had to cut every bolt on there to get it apart. I also removed the angle strips. I used my air hammer with the chisel attachment. It took about 20 min to completely remove the strips with no damage. I also started sanding on my interior. I ordered some dupli-color Light drift sand metallic. I guess it is coming from the moon because I have been waiting for month. With the bed gone I can start working on body work. I am looking for a good primer.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Been busy today. I mad cab corner cover (thanks McMurphy), sanded and painted the inside cab. I ran out of paint so I still need to finish. I also lined the floor to give it some protection. Over all it came out good. Now I have to start working on the doors.

Very impressive progress!

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Thanks! I needed to get somewhere with the project. I still have to do sand, prime and block the body but I needed to get close to finishing something. The I still have to clear, cut and buff it. It looks a whole lot better with paint on it. One day I hope that it comes out as good as yours!

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Major accomplishment this weekend. I finally laid down primer. It came out great but showed me I have more body work to do. I guess the even color brought out the small dents and imperfections in the body. Next week I will start on the blocking and fixing the minor imperfections. I used Dupli-Color Primer surfacer. It mixes well and sprays good. i plan on using slick sand for the final primer coat.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
I have been real busy at work and little on the truck. All I have been doing is body work, filling and sanding. The passenger door and lower hood is giving me hell. I also received a free step-side from Shooter 7. Once I get the cab right I will start rebuilding my bed.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Thought I would post some pics of the 62 today. I have been doing body work on the cab and it is taking a little while to get it straight. I am on my third coat of primer. Soon as i get the bed right I will send it off to paint. I removed the bed angle strips and there is rust under where they were. I guess if I have them blasted it will be ok. If someone had the same problem please let me know.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Progress is slow right now. I have been real busy at work and when I get home i don't feel like doing anything. The heat is not helping. Yesterday i removed the doors again to sand and prime the jams. I also had to sand and prime the inner doors. i didn't do it when I had them off before. I also seamed sealed the roof. I hate the way it turned out. i have that stuff all over the roof. I don't know why I didn't use tape to get perfect lines. It looks ok but I see the flaws. I guess it is good it is on top. I tried to get my bed blasted last week but the blaster was closed. For some reason I am real close to getting the body work done but I just can't complete it. My wife says I am too picky. It also scored me a free tailgate! It pays to be nice to people! Here is some shots of the jams and inner door.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Finally laid some paint down. I sprayed the roof and the front grill support. I can't seem to find a good place to by paint. I went and priced some today and he wanted $130 for a quart. I looked a summit and they have the color (Boss Blue) and the price for what I am looking for but they wont send it to Texas. Where is a good place to get Brigade Blue?

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
It is looking good...keep up the excellent job that you are doing. I don't know where you could find cheaper paint, but my advice would be to call all of the paint suppliers in your area and get pricing. A lot of places can't ship it due to haz-mat laws and shipping....Good luck and keep the updates coming...

Awesome work man, I'm just starting the bodywork... Heat has been ridiculous here as well...

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Progress is real slow right now. Work is keeping me there late every night and i don't feel like working on the truck. This weekend I finally was able to paint the grill. I thought I would have it done fast but it took longer than expected. I also sent the bed out for blasting. I will get it back this week and hopefully I will weld in the angle strips and get it ready for paint. I had a dead line for September but i don't see that happening.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Picked up my bed from the blaster Friday. Man does it look better. I also got my pain it so I thought I would jam the truck. I like the look so i went ahead and painted the whole front end. it has some striping because I ran out of paint so I will need to put two more coats on it. I started on the bed by welding in the bed angle strips and filling the rust pits. The truck looks so much better with the color on.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
I need to order more paint. I only had a quart and it covered most of the truck. I have about 1/4 left but not enough hardener. The paint lays down good and I only had three runs which I need to sand out and re paint. It comes out more satin than flat.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Did some painting last week. I got a gallon of blue in and tried to get the color right. This Hotrod flatz is hard to get the streaks out and even. I think it looks ok when it is even. It came out a little more semi gloss than flat. I had over half a gallon left but it all dried up so i have to order more paint to finish the bed. I hope that I can get the body work finished on the sides this weekend. Here is some new pics.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Here is a new update. I have been in the field conducting live fire exercises so I haven't had much time to work on my 62. While I was gone my wife had the front and rear glass installed. I had them both installed for $220.00. I thought it was a good price since they are going for $300 plus. I still have my bed to work on and my interior. I am leaning on finishing my glass and interior first so I can mount my gas tank and move it on its own power. Should I finish the interior or the bed first? Right now I am still pushing it. I am real happy that my wife surprised me with the glass install when I got home for the weekend.

If you ever seen that movie "Mystery Alaska" it is not too far off the mark for what life up here is like in the winter time..... Good movie too by the way. One definate challenge is painting. It will lay down nice enough, but if it is masked off, and is a gloss paint the paint will peel up and off with the masking; if it is a flat paint, then the tape glue will stick to the surface of the masked area. Adapt and over come eh? Barnfind, I been dinking around with little projects as well, but needed in order to get my cab into the final stages so I can Herculiner the floor, and start wiring it back up for the electrical. |
Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
This weekend had good weather in Central Texas. In the upper 70s and lower 80s. I have been in the field support gunnery for 30 days so I hadn't had much time to work on the truck. Saturday I went outside and said I will put the bed together and Sunday I accomplished the mission. I worked the sides and put the fenders on to start blocking. I kept hitting them and causing more damage when they were on the floor. It is starting to look like a truck again.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
This bed is kicking my ass, spent another full day working on one fender. I had to cut, weld and fill in two pieces that was rusted out. Then I had to pound out and re-shape the front of right rear fender. It was hard to get that line straight. I am almost done with all the body work. I have one more piece to weld on angle strip little filler, sand and I am ready to start priming and blocking. Hopefull I will be ready to paint in a month.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Truck is looking good! I looked for a spare door handle but I didn't have one. I'm sure the place in Belton has one you can pull off a truck or burb. You may go to fast freddies by Skylark field (on business 190 end) and look behind the tire shop. They have a burb thats the same year model I'm sure they'll sell parts off of. Its been sitting back there for several years....
