That's the plan anyway. I have no body work experience at all but I think I can get it figured out. Not sure how I am going to mate the cabs yet. After deer season I will start cutting the back of the 1st cab off and the front of the 2nd cab off. Then we will see what it is going to take. |
Re: 1969 C50 crew cab build
Awesome!! I am in the no body work club too, but I have thought it over quite a bit, Especially since I have 4 cabs setting in my barn. I had to call a friend to talk me out of cutting 2 of them to pieces last week Haha

Re: 1969 C50 crew cab build
Lucky you! I wish I had 4 cabs to work with. I have looked long and hard for these 2 cabs. There is this guy in Hermann MO that I went to look at some parts at. He had at least 6 perfect cabs...and I mean perfect. He also had 3 primo Blazers. Dude wouldn't sell anything. I guess he just wanted to brag and tease me. I don't blame him, I am sure he has a lot of time in finding them. But why advertise and then not sell.

Re: 1969 C50 crew cab build
This looks like a great build . Can I ask why you didn't want to use the original frame ? I would guess there plenty strong ? Keep up the great work . I'd love to build a reg cab truck like this with a big flat bed .

Re: 1969 C50 crew cab build
Question. I bought a 69 c50 and Im going to swap in my 79 K3500 DRW axles in. Any idea how close the spring perches are to a 3500 axles? I dont have my hands on the c50 yet.

Got the front firewall of the crew cab portion taken off this weekend. Looks as clean as I had hoped. Started disassembly of the front cab to get the back panel, headliner, etc out. The front driver bottom door pillar is pretty rusty in places. You can buy front pillar replacements for C10's but they are not the same as the C50. I will have to get into it deeper. I was reading a thread earlier and have bought a "67-72 chevy assembly line instruction manual" to help me understand where all the spot welds are. Yikes.

Re: 1969 C50 crew cab build
Some more info....a C50 cab sits off the frame about 2.5" higher than C10-C30 trucks. I will need to locate another set of C50 front cab mounts to get the 2nd cab on the same plane as the front cab. For the back mounts I will have to use the 2 most inboard set of cab mount holes that are already in the cab, and make another cross member and set of bushings like what I made for the front cab.
Anyone have a set of C50 front cab mounts handy?? |

Sorry about the sideways picture. Not sure why it did that nor do I know how to fix it! Here is a cross section of the door frame/top sheet metal/drip edge, etc in case anyone wondered what all is in there. Also showing the joints where the head liner and the seam along the back top of cab in case anyone wants to have a reference.

Here is this weekends progress. Got the 2nd cab positioned on the frame. The cab length is 95" from front door to back of cab. I want 4 full size doors so this will allow plenty of leg room. Now I will have to figure out how to marry the 2 cabs.

Very Nice Progress:metal:
Are you going for this approach in the picture below? If so will you have the other 10.5 inches as a filler panel? Or will you lengthen the rear door? |
Re: 1969 C50 crew cab build
Keeping a eye on this one. Good luck

Have you thought about using a Suburban and then welding on the back of the truck cab behind the rear doors?

A C-50 will look real good with (2) Full-size rear doors. Edit: 4 full size doors |

Hey gup1972,
When your able, could you take a couple pictures of how your ch465 is mounted to the engine? Trying to confirm if there is adapter in between the engine and trans. Thanks! |

Re: 1969 C50 crew cab build
Just curious...can Dana 60 and 14 bolt swap in and bolt to the spring perches on the c50 chassis?
|
Re: 1969 C50 crew cab build
1ton down is setup for 2.75" wide stock leafs . aftermarket like lift kits go 2.5" you cant cut in the the housing for 3" wide unless you do a home brew u-bolt conversion as you will loose the 2 bolt holes for the spring plate .
the width for a dana 60 front is 32" center to center . the 1ton rear for a 14ff is 40.5" center to center and 2.5" wide springs . the rear can be worked around a bit but the front has the pass side spring mount cast in to the diff housing . todays axles i would tend to start looking at ford f-450 and f-550 super duty stuff . there a lot bigger and bigger parts and also factory 19.5 rim size . |
Re: 1969 C50 crew cab build
Thanks for the info. I’m looking at the K50 rtech build and he said he just put the 1 Tom axles in. I know there are bigger axles but I’m just wondering if it’s as easy as sliding in the 1 ton axles and bolting them to the leaf springs.
