Looks good. Don't forget on your front hubs that your rotor mounts to the back side of them and the wheel studs run thru both. (Saw you had them studded already in your pic)

Not on mine !! My truck originally had drums. If you go back on the top of this page, you'll see that I made my own disc brake conversion using large late model
2-piston calipers. On the table with the coated parts the custom backing plate is sitting on the edge of the table. I also increased the stud size to 1/2-20.

I need to get a rolling chassis again quickly so that I can get the body shell blasted and epoxied before the cold weather gets here in a few weeks.

Been a busy week. Got the chassis done, so I'm back to getting the body done. I fabricated the roll bar and mounted it permanently. I figured it would be easier to paint it in location than to risk getting the paint scratched afterwards. I incorporated the seat belt mounts into it also. I'm putting in 3 point harnesses because I just don't feel safe with just a lap belt. We have some nice weather coming up, so I rolled the body outside for the fun task of sandblasting it. So far I've used 52 50lb bags.

Was able to get the underside and floor epoxied and painted. Today I will be seam sealing all the joints. Someone asked for pictures of the transfer case to frame mount, so I've added those too.

Thanks Dan. That was me asking the question about the mount. Between yours and another post I get how it goes together now. The bushings are different thicknesses, which did you put on the bottom the thick or thin? I'm getting conflicting answers on that.

Dan definitely I think it was the thick bushing. I just installed my transfer case this afternoon and after I got it bolted to the tranny and sitting at the correct height I measured. Thin would have been way too low in my case.
Right now my output yoke is sitting offset between the frame rails a bit. That side mount basically dictates where it sits left to right between the frame. When I take a measurement I'm 1" closer to the Lh rail than the Rh rail so 1/2" off center.
How close is yours to center between your frame rails ??

I just checked mine, and the thick bushing is on the bottom. I also checked the side to side location of the transfer case yoke and it's 1/2" offset also same as yours.


Was able to get the passenger 1/4 straightened and epoxy primed today. Nice to see panels in one color.

Are your exhaust tips out the back or are they angled out behind the tires?
Did you put a H-pipe anywhere or are they straight from the manifold back?

They come out the back. Hopefully this wont cause issues by causing exhaust fumes to go into the truck from the low pressure because I will only be using a soft top.
I had plans on an H-pipe, but once I had the exhaust fabbed up, there was no place for me to install one. Since I'm using a 5.3, the laws here in Canada dictate that I use all the emission controls from the donor engine and this includes the cats. If they weren't there I would have had room.The small gain in HP is minimal anyway, but I will miss the sound of an H-pipe though. Oh well !!

Getting lots done, but mostly boring body work. Everything is now in epoxy primer (gray colour), and giving it 72 hours before I sand it and spray on the polyester primer (Featherfill). Parts like the underside of the hood and rad support were epoxy coated then painted wet on wet with satin black urethane.Parts like the inside of the doors that wont get blocked with Featherfill were sprayed with high build urethane primer (tan colour).

I guess you wont like my final choice for the exterior then because it's not a factory colour. :lol::lol:
When I first bought my Blazer, I was going with Hugger Orange. It looks great and really suits this style of truck, the problem is that everyone else thinks so too and in IMHO it's been done too many times. What made me change my mind was the Syracuse show this year. There was an amazing looking Blazer there (1 of 2) and it was from Ontario, and you guessed it, it was orange.
I don't like wrong year paint either, and some newer colours with high metallics and pearls really don't suit older vehicles. I think my choice will look good, and will be somewhat different.
I'm not one to follow trends.:lol::lol:

Hey...my truck wasn't a factory correct color (or colour ;) ). You couldn't get silver on these trucks. We cheated on the reproduced SPID and coded the paint out as a special order code so it synced up. I just like the black under hood, correct dash color, detail stuff like that...

BTW...have I missed it in the thread...or misread your post? What colour are you painting it?

I'm going through the colour deciding process now. I think my paint guy is getting tired of doing test panels for me. Can't decide beyond I want to be period correct. Also curious what you're going with.

I'm a real military buff and would have loved to paint it flat drab olive, but then everything on the truck would have to blacked out and needless to say any flat colours (color for my American friends) are extremely difficult to maintain. I knew I wanted a solid colour, and driving home one day I spotted a 2015 Jeep which from far away looked black. It was actually a real dark olive green, and although it was shiny, it still had that military look to it.
It's called "Tank" green, and although the paint formula says there's metal flake in it, it's in such a low amount that you can't even see it.
I had a buddy photoshop a Blazer with it and it looked good especially with the black soft top.
I'm a couple of weeks away from having to buy the paint, and so far I can't seem to be able to talk myself out of it.
It would be different, but not so different that it would make it stand out.

The interior is originally black, so it will stay that way. The original seat are the utility buckets, and although I would prefer the smaller buckets, I'll keep them. I'll upholster a small pleat design into them so they don't look so...well...utility looking ! :lol:
Even though I've upgrade the drivetrain and a few other things, I still want this truck to look to be as close to original right down to the AM radio. The stereo will be in the console, and I have a WW2 era anti tank mine box that will be a permanent storage box behind the rear seat. I also have a WW2 metal gas can that will become the housing for the subwoofer and this will be clamped to the rear part of the roll bar by the tailgate.

Brother your progress is phenomenal. You've built half a blazer, rotisserie, and other stuff in 3 pages. Your thread is awesome, can't wait to see more progress. I've been thinking about a 5.3 or 6.0 for mine, maybe even a turbo.

All original panels like the doors, hood and body were sprayed with Featherfill after the epoxy cured for 3 days. The fenders and tailgate as well as a few other pieces that needed no major blocking were epoxied then Urethane primed wet on wet.
All the priming is now finished, and now I need to wait a month before blocking. This is crucial because urethane needs time to gas off or else it will sink and show sanding scratches down the road. I will however paint the firewall so that I can put the body back on the chassis.

Your thread almost makes me want to tear mine back down and paint it!!! I've got about 70 miles on mine with no issues except for an odd case with my steering. You are going to love how it performs. Can't wait to see the subwoofer idea.

Today was powder coating day. The most difficult part is blasting the parts, and I'd recommend anyone that can blast at home to set themselves up for powder coating. It's such a quick way to finish parts and the results are excellent. The best part is that it's dirt cheap to do. All the parts in the pics probably took less than $5 in powder.
I also ordered my exterior paint, so it's a done deal and it's going "Tank" green. I sure hope I made the right choice. Choosing paint colour or rim style can make or break the look of a vehicle.
