I have done a few trucks and and we always start from the bottom and go up you alredy know that the bag will lift over 7 in so you want to get the truck at the layed out level mount bottom of bag compress bag and then mount top bracket so that bag is compressed when layed out

Set the bottom of the frame rail to your desired ride height off the ground and then figure your bag mounts out. I would recommend a tapered sleeve on an over the axle set-up... the ride quality will be much better than a convoluted bag. If you are planning on 'possibly changing over' to the tapered sleeve later and run the convoluted now, keep that in mind when building your mounts.

Nathan, do you know the ride height of a typical sleeve bag? Is Firestone the sleeve bag of choice? Never seen any others.

Got the 4-link mounted and rear bags on. I changed from going over the axle to in front. Next is the panhard bar. Just ordered it today.

what about a 2x3 with wrap around mounts.

Big day today. Got the truck off the jackstands for the first time. I almost have the rear done. Last thing to do is a framerail crossmember between the cab and notch. I got the shocks mounted, boxed the frame in front of the notch, and put braces on all corners of the notch. She is looking sweet. I wish I could get it to lay level at this point, but haven't touched the front yet.

Well you need to put a lowering kit in your floor jack too  .

AJA, I just add some air, slide the jack under, then deflate, then jack it up...

Re: progress pics

today I chopped the crossmember. I went with 1.5". I wasn't going to do all that work for anything less. I have a couple gaps, but overall, its coming out pretty good. I tacked it up and reinstalled it to make sure everything lines up. Now the million dollar question is what I'm gonna do for steering. I kow this subject is old hat, but if anybody can offer suggestions, Id appreciate it.

Yea, my thought too. I've been reading about it for the last 4 hours. My brain is gonna explode!!!

Re: progress pics

Has anybody tried moving the steering box and idler arm up on the frame an 1" or so? Or bending the pitman arm flat and raising the idler arm an equal amount to raise the linkage?

You would have to notch the frame for clearance, but it could help you use less joints in the steering shaft if the box was higher. I am looking into this for my cross member chop to avoid linkage / u bolt interference.

Re: progress pics

i just said that tonight too. i think it would work

Re: progress pics

everything looks awesome so far!!! on thing i'd recomend would get rid of the panhard bar and build a watts link. the rear end will stay completely centered no matter at what height you are at.

Re: progress pics

Thats what I did. My crossmember is sectioned 1.75" and thats how much I moved all my steering up. We just basically sliced the side off the frame off and raised it 1.75" and welded it back together. Then reinforced the crap out of it!!! I can maybe get pictures tomorrow when Im working on my truck...

67Fleet 03-25-2007 08:03 AM

Re: progress pics

Jared, I'm definitely interested in seeing pics of that as I'm getting ready to put my 1.5" sectioned crossmember in my 67.

If you could get pictures that would be great. I looked at raising the steering box and all but the problem I saw was the pitman arm and idler arm hitting the bottom of the frame when your fully turned. Are you notching for this or raising the entire section of the frame for clearance. I guess a pic would show it best.

Yea, the steering linkage is the easy part. We are all mainly concerned with the tie rods, idler arm, pitman arm, etc...
