Re: 5.3 into 72
Finally got her running today! Still have to rap up the permanent fuel pump wiring, mounting the electric fans, routing the headlight wiring, mounting the bed and doing the fuel fill. I'd like to get the exhaust done this weekend.

Re: 5.3 into 72
I have a vicious vacuum leak on my intake manifold. I found the culprit, I put some electrical tape over it just to stop it and that created a loud whistle. I am not sure what the piece on the manifold was or if it can be replaced. Some advise would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 5.3 into 72
There was a little nub there for a vacuum nose, I used it for my A/C vacuum attachment on my 78.
If you do not need a sorce for vacuum why can't you just plug it, maybe a screw with silicone on it |
Re: 5.3 into 72
1 Attachment(s)
Jess here is what mine looks like..its blocked from factory with that plastic stirrup thingy..like said before you might could tap it and put in a plug or barb fitting..but that plug don't look like it comes out but I don't know about that.
|
Re: 5.3 into 72
Thanks guys. I think I'll attempt to plug it today and see what happens. When I covered it yesterday it created a whistle. It could've been leaking a small amount of air to cause that though. We shall see

Re: 5.3 into 72
You could always place a vacuum gauge on that fitting

Re: 5.3 into 72
Starting to look like a truck again. I'm giving it a rest for the weekend. Doing a marriage retreat with the family. I'll be back at it Monday. Have to wrap up the details.

Re: 5.3 into 72
Took the truck out on its first drive today. All seems fine except the trains starts out in 3rd gear and not first. I still have to troubleshoot this as its a bit of a headache

Re: 5.3 into 72
I ended up mailing BP my ECM and TCM today. I tried to pull codes with a scan tool today and the scanner powers up but wouldn't link. Bill said the TCM is the first link up for the scan tool and he seems to think the place that sold me the setup may have just sent a non matching TCM. I hope this is the case. I had constant and switched power at the TCM connector.

Re: 5.3 into 72
Any updates yet?
|
Re: 5.3 into 72
What fuse/ relay center did you use.? On my 2005 5.3 , I used under hood fuse box for connecting stock harness. Unfortunately the tranny got its power from the interior fuse center on that model truck. Found out the hard way it wouldn't shift. Did some digging to find that out. God luck. Jim
|
Re: 5.3 into 72
No updates yet and bp automotive built my harness and fuse box.
|
Re: 5.3 into 72
Have a small update. I may have my issue figured out. There was a communication wire from the ECM into the TCM that wasn't making contact to the TCM. Just waiting to get it all hooked back up to test it. Then it's just a matter of having my exhaust system built and she should be road worthy. I have plans to take her to the rod run in gatlinburg tn this September.
|
Re: 5.3 into 72
Well, the communication wire was the issue. I got it all back together tonight and the trans has 1st gear now.
|
Re: 5.3 into 72
What issue did you have with the communication wire , was it with the connectors or ?
|
Re: 5.3 into 72
The connector on the tcm wasn't making contact. The connector backed out of the harness just enough so there was no contact.
On another note I just set up an appointment for my exhaust to be run. I'm going with 2 1/2" with an X pipe, spin tech mufflers and turn downs right at the rear bumper. |
Re: 5.3 into 72
I have a 6.0 in my 72. I built it to drive it. With that in mind, I'm on my 3rd set of mufflers. I found the Dynomax VT mufflers to have the period correct sound with no drown at highway speeds. Turbo mufflers and Flowmaster 40s were great as long as I kept it under 60. The flow's sounded great, but made my ears bleed at hwy speeds.
I'm using the 2 1/2" kit exhaust from Summit. Tail pipes angles behind the wheels. Good Luck, Jaime |
Re: 5.3 into 72
I was going to use flowmaster 40's, but I decided I wanted something a little different. I went with spin tech as I like chambered mufflers.

Re: 5.3 into 72
Well, I have most things tightened up now and the truck is at the shop for exhaust. I had a p0300 code last night and after some troubleshooting found out I had two bad injectors. Once I pick the truck up I'm gonna run some fuel system cleaner through it just to make sure my other injectors are up to par. It will be nice to finally be able to drive her again.

Re: 5.3 into 72
Had the exhaust ran today. They said they couldn't get an X pipe in so they ran an H pipe. They did a great job and the new power train seems to be running very well so far.

Re: 5.3 into 72
How do the SpinTEch mufflers sound and which ones did you choose.?
|
Re: 5.3 into 72
I like the sound of the spin techs. I ordered them from Maryland speed and they didn't give a series, just a 9x12 measurement. They are tame at idle, but wake up at full throttle. I am happy with them.

Re: 5.3 into 72
trucks looking nice...planning on doing a swap soon...iam also here in bragg and was wondering is there many swap around here i would like to find some one to give me advice when i start
|
Re: 5.3 into 72
I've seen a couple of 67-72s on post, but I haven't met them and don't know if they have LS's.
|
Re: 5.3 into 72
Do you drive the truck to post alot ? I would like to check it out and be able to know some one that already done a swap...from what seem it looks pretty straight forward and i know there are still hidden challenges

Re: 5.3 into 72
Well I've made a few changes to the truck as I've been driving it. Working the bugs out. I'm making the trip to pigeon forge in September for the shades of the past Rod run. It's been nice to have the truck back on the road. I've cleaned up and painted the master cylinder since these pictures lol

Re: 5.3 into 72
Looks very good. Hopefully not too many bugs to fix.
|
Re: 5.3 into 72
There were a couple small coolant leaks and the first trans cooler I had on wasn't up to par. That stuff seems to be worked out now though.

Re: 5.3 into 72
Any pics of the h-pipe set up??

I've never attempted to post a video. So here's my first attempt at it. A quick exhaust sound clip

Re: 5.3 into 72
Sounds great, a nice clean install!

Re: 5.3 into 72
What year blazer did the gas tank come out of? Seems to fit perfectly. I like the angle that your engine sits in . Looks factory. I wonder if the same motor / trans mount can be used with a 6L90E trans.... I'm thinking not without a high hump trans cover. What say you experts?
Arnulfo |
Re: 5.3 into 72
The blazer tank is from an 87. As far as the angle goes I used all ECE mounts. They worked out well. I did have to grind a little on the driver side because the header was really close to the mount.
