Have I mentioned how much I love this site:metal:
fire wall clearance was an issue getting it dropped in to the block, I had to jack up the rear of the trans to get the clearance, after I got it in there clearance wasn't an issue  I used '80 Corvette wires..fit great after a several moments of dumbass;)....no the other clockwise jackass:lol:

Hey sorry if i missed this question or if it was mentioned, but if u use the jeep coils, do u need to get an adjustable track bar or can u stay with the stock bar? Thanks guys...

If you want some of these springs, check your local 4x4 shops, they might have some laying around, I put an ad on craigslist and a guy who installs lift kits called me and sold 'em cheap. I also found some on ebay for $0.99 plus shipping

oldblue, haha that's our Mitch, he loves to ride:truck::lol:

TimE,. I got before and after shots, but failed to measure before and after, but I'm guessing I got around 4(or a bit more) inches between the jeep coils and removing the coil over shocks on the rear. Probably need about 2 inches on the front, figure I will start with cutting one coils and go from there. Another thread on here said he cut 1 coil and 3 inches and I believe he said he got 2-2 1/2 inches

slammed1966, so far I love it, this is about as low as the wife will let me go, but once I get to work on my '64 I'm going lower:devil:

I wish I would have known this when I did mine about 3 years ago. I went 2.5 inches in the front and 4 out back. 2.5 in the front is about as much as you can go before you have to do spindles etc. So I have been led to believe. It handles 1000 x better and the swaybars ft and back dont hurt either.

Re: Joined the "lowered club"...half way, at least

skyline, i just have the stock bar, it is parallel to the ground at ride height. there is maybe 1/8" difference from side to side, works with my wheel/tire combo...15x8 ralleys 235/75/15's...plan on an adjustable one soon

:welcome2: 64chevkev, nice truck!!
yeah i wouldn't do more than 2 1/2" with springs...it jacks with the geometry if you do...i have a line in some dropped spindles(eh, scott,) and working on getting some air bags and such for a better, lower ride. i did the jeep coils and cut the front as a temp. altitude solution

Hate to hear that you're selling the '64. If I were a little closer I'd be interested in that bed. It also looks like the 66 is progressing rather nicely.

Keep the wifey busy!!

I have lots more pix, just need the time to post them.

how is yours going?

if you are interested in the bed, i could deliver it to your relatives out Shawnee way, and you could pick it up next time you come out

I appreciate the offer, Joe, but the relatives out there don't have a great appreciation for "yard art".;)

A '48 panel project would be too cool. Got any pics?

As far as my truck, I haven't had time to touch it since the 4th. Maybe next week when I'm off again.:waah:

Anyway, good luck with the 66, selling the 64 and the "new" '48 project.

shouldn't be the shocks, probably sagging springs

joe its been awhile since you installed the jeep coils, how have they been working out?
I am thinking of doing them on both my trucks..

joe231 07-31-2008 09:23 PM

Re: Joined the "lowered club"...half way, at least

they work good if you don't haul anything.
they are soft, ride is nice, but even a couple hundred pounds in the back will cause it to bottom out over bumps.

Hey guys.... I'm not a regular over here but I have a big soft spot for 64-66 big window short fleets so I do check in from time to time.

For those wanting to drop the rear & still haul cargo, you should consider air bags. You can swap a pair of dbl convoluted bags in place of the coils, plum some DOT airline to a convenient location & install schrader valves to add/delete air pressure when wanted. It's a basic set-up that rides great, isn't too cost prohibitive ( 2x bags @ $75ea, DOT airline <$20, & 2x schrader valves @ $5ea), & works well.

Just keep the air pressure @ a set amount for normal driving & when it's time to 'work', add a little air just like you would to your tires.

Awsome trucks over here BTW!

SCOTI,
:welcome2: over here
thanks for the input.
that is my current plan
I'm trying to figure out a good place to mount the schraders.
don't want it permanent, got a york that i'm gonna eventually run on board air with.
i hate to drill holes, but i can always weld 'em up later

On my 68, I drilled a couple of 1/4" holes in the license plate box & mounted them behind the plate (flip-up plate w/an ECE hidden hitch).

I was planning on doing the same thing for my 74 w/it's home made air over leaf set-up since I used a modified ECE hidden hitch set-up on it as well. But, I found a couple of correct size holes already drilled in front of the wheel tubs on the floor of the bed so I used them.

Dang, where have I been? I somehow missed the posts of your truck in primer until today.:dohh:

How soon are you planning on trying to bag it?

Looks to be coming together well for you, Joe. (I'm jealous.) Keep it up!

joe231 08-15-2008 06:21 PM

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build

Hey Tim,
It is all in primer now, except the interior and inside the bed, I will try to get pics in the next day or 2.

might be holding off on the bags, I'm going to look at a '84 short wide, If i get it, it will be getting the bag treatment first. plus the '66 is actually the wife's truck and she isn't too keen on the bags, her uncle has been giving her some ribbing about it. and she wonders if her late father would like it lowered or not.....
I might just bag the rear of the '66 in case we ever haul anything, and just use shrader valves. then we could raise it up a bit in the rear and just put stock coils back in the front.
I may have pushed some of my ideas onto her truck:lol:

TimE 08-15-2008 06:45 PM

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build

Gee whiz, Joe, if you keep getting different body style trucks you're gonna have to post in EVERY forum on here. Let's see...that's a '48, a '66, a '90 and now an '84...yup, you'll pretty much have the bases covered.

As far as the wife not sure about the bags, that just means you're that much closer to be done with it and you have extra parts(that's always a good thing). My wife doesn't like the idea of me bagging mine and she doesn't even ride in it, much less drive it. Go figure...:uhmk:

joe231 08-15-2008 06:56 PM

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build

ha ha
yeah, probably trade the '90 off....but we still have the '95 suburban
I have always been a square body fan, had a '73 long bed red neck rig years ago.
