Tell the insurance company to give you the value and let you keep it for nothing. It's worth more than the cost of the few parts it needs.

Re: How many 4wd Suburban guys do we have?

On my 4th 4wd Sub.Currently we have a stock '87 3/4ton 4x4.Bought it a couple of yrs ago with 58K on it.Very clean.Do want to lift it 4".
Over the yrs.We started with a '77 1/2ton 350/465/205 put 4" lift, lockers and 33" swampers on it.Wheeled it for about 6 yrs.It got too beat up.So I stripped it and used the drivetrain in a '73 Blazer.Upped to 36" swampers and wheeled that for yrs.
At the same time had a '79 1/2ton.400/350/205.Put the 4" lift from the '77 on it.DD it for a while.
Then picked up a '86 3/4ton.Bought it for cheap with a bad t-case.Replaced it and DD it.

mine is 4X4. Just got it about a month ago. Traded my CJ7 renegade for it and got a little cash to make up the difference. It's a 6.2L diesel with the banks sidewinder turbo installed by the dealership when it was new. Unfortunately I moved from michigan to tennessee a couple years ago and we don't get much snow down here.

That thing is SWEET!!

How do you like the banks turbo?
You have this and a N/A 6.2 Burb also, right?
Is there a big difference in power?

Here's my 85 diesel burb....I need to get a better pic tho. It's a little different now, made some changes to the roof rack. Over the next couple months I want to put dual shocks on all 4 corners, replace the 4 bad glow plugs that are stuck in the heads, and get the new solenoids on my winch so I can put that back on.

Nice Burb!

I heard of a trick on the glow plugs, I haven't tried it yet but it came from someone who works on tons of the Detroits and has had specific training.

Loosen the glow plug and pull it as far as you can by hand.
Unplug the fuel cut off solenoid at the front of the engine.
Crank the engine over and the compression will blow the glow plug out.
Easier than breaking them off and digging out the pieces...
I assume it will shoot out like a bullet though, might want some sort of cushion to catch it.

Re: How many 4wd Suburban guys do we have?

ok - quick story -

When I worked on these trucks at the GM Desert Proving Ground, I had this boss who was a little, short, ruddy Irishman. Turns out his wife was short, too (she was 5' x 5' - lol).

He drove these company trucks home every night, and she was so short she couldn't get up in them. So they made her a little step stool - but then the problem was she couldn't retrieve the stool, so they tied a rope to it. She would set the stool by the truck and pitch the rope up on the seat, climb aboard and then hoist the stool up into the truck. Problem solved. :metal:

So I was telling my young son about this whole operation and he got this deep, thoughtful look and said "...yep - that's a long ways up for 'fat ole Barb'".

ACK!

Of course, we scolded him soundly and told him never to say that again to anyone!!

Careful cvalcore, you'll be tightening the coupler bolts in your column in no time. Ask me how I know :D

Re: How many 4wd Suburban guys do we have?

ah the wheel has been tightened once before the 10" its been staying tight so far. my wife use to complane about it she wants me to put steps on it but she gets up there just as fast as i do now.
